Santa Claus has one more gift for Doctor Who fans: a new Time Lord.  It was announced yesterday that actor Matt Smith will take over the role from David Tennant, under whose tenure the show yielded, amongst all its sci-fi stories, such horror-centric episodes as “Family of Blood” and the Hugo Award-winning “Blink”.  Tennant announced his retirement from the role several months ago, after four years in the Tardis.

repo

Yeah, yeah, I know -- another Repo! article.  But here's the thing: director Darren Lynn Bousman recently announced he’ll take his rock musical Repo! The Genetic Opera on a road tour across the country for an astonishing third time. So to get you psyched for Repo! when it hits your neck of the woods – and for its DVD release on January 20th – here’s a conversation with Bousman, Repo! co-creator Terrance Zdunich (who also plays the film’s mysterious Graverobber), AND Repo’s main bad boy himself – actor Paul Sorvino (a.k.a the villainous Rotti Largo). All three stopped by our home town of Philadelphia during the second Repo! road tour, and all shared their thoughts on making one of the most unique films of 2008…

It’s a year that will live on as the year we elected the first US African American president, the year of a near-depression and recessive economic state, the year the Philadelphia Phillies won the World Series and the year that superhero films rocked the box office like they never had before. But here at FEARnet, we took a few minutes to reflect on some of our favorite moments and frankly, they have nothing to do with the aforementioned ’08 memories! While we’re not Oprah or a squealing German child from a Broadway musical, these are a few of our favorite things and we’d like to share them with you, our loyal FEARnettians. If your New Year is already looking packed, check out the schedule facing artist-filmmaker Gris Grimly. One of the most versatile talents working in horror today, Grimly recently spoke with us about his upcoming feature-film directorial debut, the stop-motion-animated Pinocchio (based on the classic children’s book, and produced by Guillermo del Toro and the Jim Henson Company). But the creator’s got plenty of other irons in the fire. In the following exclusive new interview, he talks about his next short films, his upcoming book adaptations of Frankenstein and Edgar Allan Poe’s short stories, his recent children’s book collaboration with writer Neil Gaiman, and his upcoming music video starring the Mistress of the Dark herself, Elvira. Whew!

Vampire Comic 'Night Projectionist' to the Big Screen

The Night Projectionist

News in today that Myriad Pictures is reteaming with comic book publisher Studio 407 to bring the horror series The Night Projectionist to the bigscreen. The Night Projectionist is the second release under a new deal, the first being Hybrid, which centers on the discovery of a mysterious boat, set for production this year. Projectionist 'takes place on Halloween Eve in a small-town movie theater, where an all-night Draculathon draws throngs of moviegoers who suddenly find themselves locked inside the theater, which is slowly filling with vampires'. Now, I'm not quite sure what an 'all-night Draculathon' is, but it sounds like something I want in on. Let's just hope the bad taste Myriad left in my mouth from Argento's Mother of Tears is gone by the time these flicks roll around. The first issue of "The Night Projectionist" miniseries will hit shelves in February.
