Yes, that’s the extremely creepy jingle sung during Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Terrifying to behold! Too many people rag on the cult classic Halloween III. Sure, it didn’t involve Michael Myers at all, or Jamie Lee Curtis, but who cares! To me, the original Halloween was a film about a scary thing that happened on October 31st. The sequel continued that by taking place directly following those events. So why does the third entry into the series have to be about Michael too?
Now don’t get me wrong, I love Mr. Myers and all he’s done for the slasher genre. I love that terrifying snow white mask with its silky waft of hair. I love the kitchen knife as the prime source of violence. But I think the Halloween series would have been an incredible movement in horror if they continued on the path set by Halloween III, and made it about terrifying things happening on Halloween! Imagine; tons of movies based solely around the creepiest night of the year!
The plot of Season of the Witch followed a divorced doctor and some strange woman he just met, as they team up to solve a mystery stemming from Silver Shamrock, manufacturer of incredibly popular children’s Halloween masks. By the end we’ve dealt with bugs, snakes, misfiring lasers, men made of plastic, and evil cultic magic that melts the heads of children!
Halloween III had everything I like in horror. A bit of the supernatural, a lot of gore, evil schemes and creepy towns! Hell, it even had implied violence toward children (which I’m not saying I specifically like or dislike, but its ballsy to put in a feature film) and a creepy, possibly depressing ending. If you haven’t seen this film yet, please do so. Forget about the big M.M. and just prepare yourself for a strange, scary movie about the evil of Halloween masks.
Here’s a clip of a kid’s head melting under a mask while bugs and snakes burst out. Seriously!
And look at this subtitle below: "The Night No One Comes Home"! Genius! It's almost like they're teasing us! Sure, they mean that no one will survive, but also it's like they're saying, right up front, "sorry suckers! No Michael!"
So, what do you guys think? Do you love Halloween III: Season of the Witch? Do you hate it? Comment and let me know!
