Another fairly skimpy week, and I feel I must apologize for saying that for the past few Tuesdays. Hey, if it was up to me, every new DVD day would be a gore-fest. But once you've gone through today's offerings, you should go rent Philip Kaufman's 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. I re-re-watched it this past weekend, and it really is one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen.
Anyway, today's best bet is probably Dimension's UK import The Zombie Diaries, which I think I was a bit rough on the first time I reviewed it. (Or maybe the DVD has a tighter version of the flick!) Basically, if you liked Romero's Diary of the Dead, then you'll probably dig this one since they both cover the same "zombie invasion through the lens of a camera" approach. But Diaries is interesting in that it offers video footage from several sources as opposed to just one. Plus the DVD comes with two audio commentaries, a few featurettes, and lots and lots of zombies.
And then there's Splatter Disco, which stars Debbie Rochon and Ken Foree AND dubs itself "the first slasher musical." Which is more than enough to earn a spot on my Netflix queue. From Lionsgate we get The Devil's Curse (AKA Credo), which is a British flick about a bunch of young people who spend a night in an abandoned dorm they shouldn't oughtta be in. Stupid young people. From BCI we get a flick with the unassuming title of Stanley, but from what I hear, this is one grade-A wacko grindhouse crap-classic. I know it has something to do with a Native American who uses a snake to kill people. And if it happens to be up your alley, today also sees the release of The Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror. Enjoy.
But seriously: The 1978 version of Body Snatchers. Trust me.
