White Dog

OK, so now that Thanksgiving is behind us and a lot of gift-buying still in front of us, we can expect all sorts of awesome new horror flicks on DVD this week. Right? Err, sorry, no. Matter of fact, aside from The X-Files: I Want to Believe (which barely qualifies as horror), odds are you've never heard of this week's releases. Things get a little better as December drags on, but unfortunately it looks like the horror fans will have to wait until January and February for the extra-cool goodies.

As far as the long-awaited (?) second X-Files movie, the flick wasn't so hot, but at least the fans will be treated to a stocked DVD. Included are both the theatrical and extended versions of I Want to Believe, as are a director's commentary, a few featurettes, some deleted scenes, and other assorted doo-dads.

Beyond that, though, it's pretty much a mystery bag: Samuel Fuller's controversial White Dog (1982) gets the Criterion Collection treatment, and I'm very curious to (finally) see this movie. Zombie geeks may want to check out the cleverly-titled Grave Misconduct, import junkies will have to sample Cruel Restaurant (Japan) and The Ghost (Thailand), and those who rent absolutely everything will have to let us know how Shadow People and The Dead Don't Scream turn out.

And that's pretty much it! Kinda works out well, really, since we SHOULD be spending our cash on other people this month. Save your own shopping for when you have a few gift cards in your pocket.
