A few Part 3s, a few indies, and a few Blus in a slightly sedate week at the horror shelf:

The Grudge 3 -- The director of the very cool Splinter returns to the Grudg-iverse (he directed some of the shorts a few years back and FEARnet’s Devil’s Trade) to deliver the franchise's first R-rated entry. Shawnee "Saw" Smith joins the series as a woman who pokes around in a house that oughtn't be poked. Extras include two featurettes and some deleted scenes. (Also available today: The American version of The Grudge on Blu-Ray.)

Underworld 3 -- Rhona Mitra replaces Kate Beckinsale as the Underworld series jumps backwards into prequel territory. You know the drill by now, Lycans hate Vampires and vice versa. They dress really well and fight a lot. Extras include a commentary, several featurettes, and a music video.

Passengers -- More of a quiet thriller than a horror flick, it stars Anne Hathaway as a woman who works with a bunch of plane crash survivors, but (of course) she starts seeing unpleasant visions and such. Two featurettes, cast/crew commentary, etc.

Plague Town -- A bunch of tourists happen upon a village swollen with evil. This one's gotten a little buzz over the festival circuit, but I haven't caught up with it yet. Extras: Two featurettes, a commentary, and a trailer.

Bruce Campbell double feature -- I'll punch you in the neck if you disparage Mr. Bruce Campbell, but even this die-hard fan had a hard time sticking with these flicks. But if you desperately need to own The Man with the Screaming Brain and Alien Apocalypse on the same DVD, well here's your chance. (Fortunately, My Name is Bruce is a large improvement over this pair.)

Also of special note: Today marks the Blu-Ray arrival of The Fog, and if you have to ask "which version," then I need to explain the difference between "a special note" and "a word of warning." In other words, I'm a huge fan of Carpenter's The Fog, and I definitely look forward to experiencing the evil cloud in Blu-Ray form.

Next week: Bloody valentines, Caroline Munro, Haylie Duff, and a whole bunch of vampires.
