When Matt and I started this project, we kicked off the creation process with the obvious first conversation: What are your favorite horror films? (I'll tell you all mine in next week's blog, if you'll tell me yours)  Once we'd covered that list and decided what genres we'd like to include in our show, we got down to the real nitty gritty: What really scares you?

I think we originally intended the conversation to act as a polite agreement between us about what we'd like to avoid.  For instance, I stated that I would never write an episode about snakes, because that's my personal phobia, and I wouldn't even be able to come on set the day of shooting if we did a snake episode.  Matt gave a professional nod and we both agreed, "No snakes".  Then Matt trusted me enough to tell me his fear: Clowns.

Now, this put me in a bad position  This was the meeting where I was going to tell him that I had come up with a new character for Fear News, "Spencer the Clown."  And I could certainly appreciate Matt's trepidation towards those frolicking, white-faced weirdos, as the opening scene you'll see in this week's episode was based on a horrible, mentally scarring nightmare I had when I was younger. 

After much discussion, cajoling, threatening, and outright trickery, I got Matt to agree to face his fears in the most hands-on way possible.  This week, boys and girls, Matt Mercer IS Spencer the Clown and I can guarantee the world of Fear News and The Last Girl will never be the same.  Enjoy!
