Editor's Note: The following was written before yesterday's annoucement about the casting of Jack Huston as Royce King II and this morning's announcement that Catalina Sandino Moreno (Che) will take on the role of Maria. But we think our blogger's suggestions are just too cool to cut. Let us know if you agree!
The Twilight Saga has certainly been true to its name in the past few weeks. First there was the casting upheaval surrounding Victoria, Rachelle Lefevre's surprise departure and Bryce Dallas Howard joining the cast. Now Catherine Hardwicke is telling the San Francisco Chronicle that Bryce Dallas Howard was always the first choice for the part of Victoria.
Various fansites and blogs have speculated that Julia Jones – not Q'orianka Kilcher – has been given the part of Leah Clearwater. And Variety reported that the uber terrifying tot from Silent Hill Jodelle Ferland has been cast in Eclipse for the part of a "vampire who has just been turned." Could this be Bree? General consensus says yes, but nothing has been confirmed by Summit.
With these rumors milling I decided to cast my vote early for the few Eclipse characters who are as-of-yet uncast: Royce King, Marie and Bree (Okay… it's probably Jodelle, but I LOVE to speculate, so bare with me.)
Tired of hearing only my own opinions (shocking I know!), I sought some outside Twilight expertise from one of the writers behind BellaAndEdward.com and an especially Twihard member of the Talent & Development department at E! Television. I think you'll agree that our combined picks in the talent lists that follow are pretty bad ass.
First up, Royce King. Royce King III to be exact. To refresh your memory, Royce was Rosalie's fiance who, along with his friends, beat and raped Rosalie, leaving her for dead.
BellaAndEdward's Picks:
Chace Crawford: He's sexy, smooth and just the kind of guy that could charm anyone - even an unsuspecting Rosalie.
Josh Hartnett: He might be slightly too old for the part of Royce, but he'd sure look good in a suit. Plus, he's had previous vampire movie experience in 30 Days of Night.
Ben Barnes: If he kept his hair short, he'd easily look the part of a well-dressed, rich banker.
Jenna from E! Television's Picks:
Darren Kagasoff: Darren Kagasoff (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) and Kyle Gallner (Jennifer's Body, The Haunting in Connecticut) are on the brink of stardom. Darren already has an established fan base. They are both strong young actors.
Kyle Gallner: (see above)
Ben Barnes: I would love to see Ben Barnes in at least one of The Twilight Saga films. It was rumored he was cast as a member of the Volturi, but this turned out to be false. Now I would like to see him used in any capacity – and he is certainly handsome enough to be Royce King!
FEARnet's Picks:
Vincent Kartheiser: Mad Men's Pete Campbell looks like a stand-up guy, but if you've ever watched the show, you know he does the two-faced rich boy perfectly. (And has vamp experience from his role on Angel.)
Bradley Cooper: He may be a bit too old for the part, but Bradley Cooper is the model of a handsome-preppy-gone-bad.
Ed Westwick: He's tested his horror chops (sort of) in The Covenant, and has been known to get into a real-life bar brawl.
Next, Maria. The small vampire with a musical voice who turned Jasper when he was a Confederate soldier. She later went on to ruthlessly control her sisters and an entire army of vampires.
BellaAndEdward's Picks:
Leighton Meester: She's brunette, not too tall, and would make an awesome mean vampire!
Eliza Dushku: Who wouldn't want to see her play a vampire?!
Mena Suvari: She's a seasoned actress, and doesn't have blockbuster status. I think she'd fit in well with the cast, and she and Jackson Rathbone would look pretty cool together.
Jenna from E! Television's Picks:
Alexis Bledel: Alexis Bledel has proven herself to be a strong film and TV actress. She has great range in both comedies and dramas. I would love to see her play a vicious and unforgiving Maria.
Vanessa Hudgens: Vanessa Hudgens is on the brink of taking on more mature work. I would like to see her in a challenging and serious role.
Margarita Levieva: Margarita Levieva ("Spread") is an up-and-coming talent.
FEARnet's Picks:
Selena Gomez: She's tiny and brunette and rumor has it that she's already had a werewolf under her spell.
Rachel Bilson: It's about time for Bilson to make her big comeback. She's little and sweet and has quite a bit of experience controlling once-innocent young men...
Leighton Meester: I have to agree with BellaAndEdward on this one. Meester knows how to play to play a girl who gets what she wants.
Finally, Bree, a vampire who was turned by Victoria when she was only about thirteen-years-old. Bree is ultimately destroyed by the Volturi. While Jenna from E! is in complete agreement with Jodelle Ferland for the role, BellaAndEdward and I have a few other picks.
BellaAndEdward's pick:
Abigail Breslin: She's around the right age (13/14), has dark hair and can act.
FEARnet's pick:
Isabelle Fuhrman: This maniacal moppet knows the part of a killer orphan well.
What do you think? Do we have any idea what we're talking about? Who would you cast?
