Could Victoria's protégé and "newborn" vampire Riley open The Twilight Saga: Eclipse with a bang? One report from the Vancouver set insists that a recently-filmed scene, in which Riley (newcomer Xavier Samuels) is attacked and turned into a vampire in a dark and rainy alley, is set to be the opening scene of Eclipse…but you wouldn't want to watch it now, would you?
(We thought so – scroll down for the video link.)
In Stephenie Meyer's novel, Riley is a strapping young college kid recruited by the vengeful Victoria to lead her army of "newborn" vampires – savage, newly turned bloodsuckers – with which she intends to exact revenge on Bella Swan and the Cullens. Victoria wins Riley's loyalty by telling him that she loves him, and he becomes her right-hand vampire man… but first, he has to endure Victoria's terrifying and painful initial attack.
The spy footage below, taken on set in Vancouver where director David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days of Night) is currently filming, has no special effects and features a lone Riley reacting to Victoria's invisible assault. (Pretty convincingly so, I might add.)
Lainey Gossip, who has some serious insider hook-ups in the Vancouver production world, reported exclusively that Riley's attack scene will open the dark and violent 2010 sequel. But how accurate is Lainey's intel, you might ask? Consider this: when I visited the set of New Moon earlier this year, she knew what I was going to see filmed before I did.
So should you watch Riley's scene now, or wait until the film's done and in theaters? Decisions, decisions…
