Fans: The Lifeblood of our Industry

Mon., Sep. 29, 2008 9:07 PM PDT , by Sid Haig

I thought that it was about time I give some special recognition to the people that make all of this business work - the fans...

You see, I don't think you know just how important you all are in the overall picture. First of all, without you, we the actors, writers, directors, distributors, and studios have nothing. Without your support we would just be stabbing in the dark looking for a way to create whatever it is that we are trying to do.

You let us know what you like and want to see, as well as what you don't like and don't want to see.

Now, if we listen to you and get it right, every one is happy. You get the films that you want to see, and we get the money to keep up production of said films (and pay the electric bill on time).

We can create all we want to, but unless you are happy with the end product, we all loose in the end.

So my hat goes off to you fans. You have been nothing but kind and very generous to me over the years. And that's why I'm there for you whenever I can be.

I want to empower you to speak up. Email the production companies, the studios, the distributors and let them know how you feel about the product they are putting out. The good stuff and the crap. Just remember to try and do it in a constructive way, or it will unfortunately fall on deaf ears. I've wanted to throw some four-letter tirades at some DVD distributors, but that just gets everybody angry and gets us nowhere in the end.

Since I have a big mouth I let people know what I think of some of the junk that gets released. You have to do the same. Don't put up with substandard films. My wife and I rent six to eight DVDs a week, and most of them are unwatchable. Film school drop out junk.

I've been in some films that you have told me were bad, bad, bad. I don't always like to hear it but your letting me know what you don't want to see me doing and that's valuable.

And I do listen, believe me.

So be the watch dogs and raise your voice when needed. It helps everybody.

In closing, I just want to let you know how grateful I am for your support.

Much love to all,

Sid Haig
