THE MAKING OF SUPER VILLAIN PT.1

What do robots with guitars, the guy from That Thing You Do, the director of Laid To Rest, and the director of photography from Halloween 2 all have in common? Well, the new Powerman 5000 video of course!

We just wrapped our two day shoot for the music video for Super Villain and it was a blast, though I am still bruised and battered from the giant mechanical robot arm I had strapped on for half the day.

Making videos are one of my favorite things to do. Especially when you can assemble a group of people like we had for this project.

The way this video came together is actually kind of funny. Ya see, FEARnet sent me out to interview Rob Hall about his directing job on the new FEARnet web series Fear Clinic. So, I show up at his FX head quarters, Almost Human, and as I enter Rob greets me and asks, "So, what band are you in?". I say Powerman 5000, and he says, "No shit! I just heard Super Villain on the radio. I want to cut my reel to it." Followed quickly by, "Let me direct the video!"

Which lead to a bunch of brain storming sessions. Sessions with us coming up with ideas that would cost us millions. Unfortunately we didn't have millions, but we did have something even more valuable... talented friends!

Enter actor Johnathon Schaech, who agreed to take on the role of our Super Villain, and Brandon Trost, director of photography on such films as Halloween 2 and Crank 2. Not to mention Porn (yup, that's his name) and the rest of the crew from Almost Human. These guys rocked out extra robot heads and mechanical arms and whatever else we could think of in just a handful of days.

All the pieces were falling in place. Time to shoot!! uh oh...
