So there I found myself all alone with a great idea for a show but no production company and no real contacts in the TV world. Every book I read about breaking into television or writing for television was telling me that what I was about to do would never work and I was headed straight into a world of disappointment.
... So after coming up with concept for Death Valley I quickly had the opportunity to partner up with a pretty big 'production company' and we started to do what everyone in Hollywood does: pitch.
It wasn't long before I found myself at the offices of the Syfy Channel (then it was Sci Fi), Showtime and a few others. I was so excited to tell everyone about my idea, and the meetings went well. Everyone seemed to respond and "get it".
But no one bit...
...and quite possibly without a top 5. I don't think any horror fan would deny that 2010 was a tough year. Not only were there far fewer horror releases, there were even less of quality.
...or THE JOURNEY OF DEATH VALLEY, PART 1
About five years ago I came up with a little idea. An idea that really was inspired by my move to California's San Fernando Valley. More specifically Burbank.
Did you catch Spider's Rock the Grave playlist this month on Music Choice On Demand? If not, what are you waiting for? And if you did, click on through for some choice interview bonus footage from his appearance.
All is fair game in art. No subject matter should be off limits. There is no topic too extreme or mundane that shouldn't be expressed through literature, fine art or film.
The real question is... what do you want to watch?
Recently I have noticed a trend. Well, maybe not a trend, let's call it a bend towards a new type of "horror" film. I put horror in quotes because I'm not certain it really is horror. Horrifying, yes. Horror, not so sure.
As promised here are the tour dates for the POWERMAN 5000 fall tour! Make sure you all get your butts out to a show cause this will be our last run of 2010!!!
Just want all you metal heads to know that I will be hanging and spreading the FEARnet gospel at the Uproar Festival on Friday, September 17th in Irvine CA This festival is headlined by Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold and features a ton of cool bands, so we figured this would be a great opportunity to let all the freaks know about the launch of the FEARnet HD channel in October. So, if you see me, stop and say hello!
And in other music news, I had the pleasure of visiting the Music Choice offices in NYC where I filmed some stuff for their ROCK THE GRAVE playlist promotion in October. I will be on air introducing videos and basically running my mouth on the state of rock music today! Make sure you check it out!!
Oh, and if that wasn't enough music news! POWERMAN 5000 hits the road again in October for our final tour of 2010. I'll post all the tour dates real soon!
Do you like this?
The fake documentary format, I mean.
It certainly isn't new, but without a doubt becoming more and more common. I suspect mainly because these films can be cheap to produce and we all have become so used to watching shitty Youtube clips that we don't mind if feature films now resemble home videos. Horror and comedy seem to embrace this approach more than any other genres. Sometimes with spectacular results. Spinal Tap, Woody Allen's Zelig, TV's The Office.
Wait, those are all comedies.
So, how about the horror?
OK, so I was just as happy as the next geek when it was clear that nerd culture had risen from the dankest corner of your mom's basement to become a monolith of power in Hollywood. I think anyone who grew up living a life of Comics or Sci-Fi or Horror felt vindicated on some level.
Has anyone out there seen this movie?
It is not new film. It was originally set to be released in 2008 and eventually hit a small amount of screens in 2009. I must admit it was completely off my radar until last week. It is available on DVD now.
I watched it a few nights ago and still can't get it off of my mind.
So I finally saw The Human Centipede.
As I was watching it I kept thinking about the things that we didn't see on screen.
For instance, what was the pitch like from agent to actor? Imagine that meeting...
