Phobia Friday: Demophobia- Fear of crowds.

At a recent True Blood screening at the Paley Center for Media, we grabbed show writer Raelle Tucker to get the dirt on season three.  As expected, she was pretty tight-lipped, but she did hint at the Eric/Bill/Sookie love triangle.  Read on to see what else might be coming up.

FEARnet: What kinds of things can we expect from season three?

Raelle Tucker: The problem is that we can never really answer that question properly.  I think we are going to see more of everything that everybody loves about the show: more genuine characters balanced with blood and boobs and people running through fields in nightgowns.  I think you are going to see the love stories start to change in a way that we haven’t see before, especially with Bill and Sookie.

They are going through some really intense challenges this season.  If you think about it, they have really only been in this relationship for about three or four weeks or something!  But now they are really getting to know each other on a different level.  That is one of the fun things we are playing with.
We are also starting to see more sides of Eric.  Unraveling the onion that is Eric.

Is Eric trying to come between Sookie and Bill because he really does want Sookie, or just because he wants to undermine Bill?

I don’t think his goal is to screw up Bill and Sookie.  I think Eric cares more about what Eric wants.  We will learn a little more about why that is, but I don’t think it is just because he wants to torment Bill.  He doesn’t mind if he does, but that is not the goal, and he doesn’t want Sookie just because she is Bill’s.

The thing about Sookie is that she isn’t just another small-town waitress.  We all know that.  She is something different, and that is really appealing [to Eric].  After being around for a thousand years, there are very few surprises left in the world.

You have vampires, mind readers, shape shifters… what other kinds of supernatural creatures can we expect to see?

The fans of the book know that there are werewolves.  Aside from that... I don’t want to say.  Mainly because I just don’t know how many will make it into the show, so I don’t want to be a tease.

I’ve heard that you will be introducing some more gay characters next season.  What can you tell us about that?

There will be gay vampires, and there will be a love interest for Lafayette.  Charlaine had several gay characters in the book, and I certainly feel like the vampire metaphor for her, in writing the books, was largely about homosexuality.

How close will you be sticking to the books?

I think we deviate, but we try to stay true to the main thrust of each book.

Each book is a season?

Yes.  Well, usually.  Sometimes we will borrow and steal from other books when we need to.
