Yup. And "The Wizard of Gore," "The Gore Gore Girls," "Color Me Blood Red," "Blood Feast," and "Something Wierd" (from which the video company got its name), among others.
"The Gore Gore Girls" is my favorite of his films. The whole thing is played for crude laughs. The killer targets strippers, so we spend a lot of the movie seeing strippers do their routines...and then getting gruesomely killed soon thereafter. Sometimes the same music they stripped to is played during the murder. The killings are very gruesome, but also played gleefully for sick laughs -- one girl gets her bare butt beaten to a pulp with a wood hammer, and then we see the killer's gloved hands sprinkle it with meat tenderizer.
Pardon the pun, but I laughed my ass off. BTW, the effects are so bad there's no danger of anyone mistaking them for real. It's Lewis's ideas that are so gross and funny.
"Gore Gore Girls" was a hoot. Lewis knew that what he was doing and didn't pretend he was making some high-brow horror piece. Same can be said about everything he did. That's what I love about his movies...they are what they and he loved doing them. Did anyone catch "Blood Feast 2" and if so...what arr your thoughts???

Eli Roth produced "2001 Maniacs"...Tim Sullivan directed. Sullivan originally had the barrel roll in "2001", but scrapped it when he got on location and saw the cotton press.

I saw "Blood Feast 2" and enjoyed it, but it just didn't have the same gleeful perversity as the original. It cracked me up that they had John Waters do a cameo in it, though. Lewis had a huge impact on him.
HG Lewis...aka "The Godfather of Gore". He created what we now call the splatter or gore movie. He started with partner David Friedman in making "nudie cutie" flicks in the 60's. When that trend became unprofitable, he decided to make movies that the major studios "either could not make or would not make." So, what sort of movies wre those? Gore movies.
Blood Feast was the end result of this...a movie where people died in more "realistic" and messy fashions. No more of being shot, for example, with nary a drop of blood. There were now geysers of it. Cheesy and silly geysers of gore...but geyers of gore nonetheless.
