I have watched Audition because it is considered one of the best. I felt the movie was not well done and not scary or suspenseful. The torture scene was nice but thats about it. I also have watched The Eye which many people rave about - I felt the movie was more of an action movie mixed with The Sixth Sense rather than horror. Every J-horror American remake seems to be mediocre as well. I have pretty much given up on asian horror straight up. Is there any Asian horror movie that will change my stance on asian horror?

i have to agree with ichi, that while not really a horror movie is truly gory, If u want to see a disturbing film i would suggest old boy as well again not really horror but quite twisted none the less, I really enjoyed imprint as well (masters of horror)

Imprint was such a pretty movie, sooo many colors, is it normal to watch the torture scene and go "oooooooooooh pretty" ? XD!!!!

You could always try Park's Revenge trilogy, which includes the great Old Boy, since they are pretty straight forward. For horror, I agree, 3 Extremes is good, but try to get the full length version of Dumplings, it's easier to understand.

Well I thought "The Eye" and "Audition" were more creepy and phsycological.

Those didnt do it for me. And i give films alot of leeway and room for interpretation. I guess its cuz they were so long and inconsistent. Im used to the hollyweird standards on screenplays i guess.

Well I thought "The Eye" and "Audition" were more creepy and phsycological. Like Ring. Ju-on is also creepy and phsycological but has a fair amount of gore. If you dont like remakes I deffinatly recomend the originals. Everyone likes the original more. Although I thought alot of the remakes were pretty good.

Anyways...If your more into gore fests then try ICHI THE KILLER, or the GUINEA PIG sereise. These are some REALLY violant films...

If your looking for somthing more high budget like hollywood then I recomend THE HOST

If you want somthing really suspensful where your really on edge and then every once and awhile it breaks the tention with a load noise then RING is a good choice.

If your getting tired of the same old thing, and want to see some REALLY original and creative movies then some good ones are UZUMAKI, TOMIE, and MPD PHSYCO.

If you need any details or descriptions of any of these movies just ask. Or if you want more recomendations I gots tons.

It's all subjective, man. It depends on what you think is frightening.

The concepts presented in films like Ringu and Ju-On are terribly frightening for many -- especially, like tomie mentioned, on a psychological level. To others, these films are just entertaining with really cool aesthetics. And some find it just plain ridiculous.

Contrary to the mass marketing of ghost women and cat children in America, there is a vast world of horror explored in Asian cinema; you just have to seek them out for many of them aren't well known or even available in the States. But the search makes a great film even more worthwhile.

Which horror films do you consider great? From there, I'm sure tomie, myself, and others will be able to give more specific recommendations.

Another that u might check out is Three...Extremes. It's Directors, Fruit Chan, Park Chan Wook, and Takashi Mikke. Three different short movies. I was pretty disturbed by it. Watched it late at night and couldn't hardly sleep. The one short, titled "Dumplings" is pretty f'ing sick. If you buy the DVD the second disc has the full length feature of that one. Other than that all I can suggest sick wise is Ichi the Killer. Total Torture and gore madness! Makes Hostel seem like a picnic in comparison. Good luck to you.
