Nosferatu was remade, so I'm assuming you meant the silent original. I think Halloween should be in place of The Birds, since I think the Birds and Jaws and Grizzly and its ilk should all be in its own man-against-nature subgenre. Otherwise, I see where you are going with this list, as representations of classic horror films, ones that immediately come to mind by laymen. 8-)

With The Shining on the list, I would actually have to encourage the watching of both. Both have good and bad points, and I do prefer the original. But the newer shows the slow degradation of Jack, which is closer to the book, than the original in which he's kind of crazy jerk from the very beginning.

Since we're adding movies, why not add Suspiria or Hellraiser? Do movies really have to be old to be a classic?

Oh, and The Hills Have Eyes and Zombie would be good, too...
