Jack Ketchum

His novel the Girl Next Door (not to be confused with the Elisha Cuthbert film) was one of the most emotionally draining books I've ever read. It got so personal and horrific at times that I wanted to stop reading, but I just couldn't put it down.

I love Jack Ketchum. His book The Lost was good. I hear they are making a movie out of it. I would agree with you about The Girl Next Door. The ending was a page turner. I just finished Off Season about a month ago and it was brutal. You should try Richard Laymon if you haven't already. Traveling Vampire Show by RL is a must read. If you like the Girl Next Door you will like it too.

Yeah, I've heard good things about Laymon. I'm just kinda poor right now, and it's hard to find good copies for cheap. But as soon as some cash starts coming in I'm gonna stock up on all the Ketchum and Laymon I can handle.

Recently read Off Season and really loved it. Not sure which one I'll read next, but I know Lucky McKee is making of a movie out of Ketchum's Red, so that's probably where I'll head next. That or The Girl Next Door.

Ans - Join The Leisure Book Club, they have republished most of Richard Laymon's books and they are about 3 each if you join the book club. They are also republishing many of Jack Ketchum's books.

Jack Ketchum (Dallas Mayr) is a great writer. My favs are The Girl Next Door, Red, The Lost, Off Season and Offspring. Hide and Seek was almost as good and in a way it is part of a trilogy of with Off season and Offspring. He is a nice guy and I have met him at HorrorFest Weekend Of Horrors several times.

I believe there is a sequel to Off Season called Offspring,

but it maybe out of print. Hopefully they will release his earlier books soon. I heard The Lost was in motion picture production.

Off Season was the first of the three, then Offspring and finally Hide And Seek. All were about Cannibals in Maine, so I view it as a trilogy. Still, his classic is the Girl Next Door. I used to have a copy that was signed and Letteredwith signatures from Jack Ketchum, Stephen King, Lucy Taylor and many other of my favorites. Unfortunately I sold it for an offer I couldn't refuse. Offspring and Hide and Seek will be republished by Liesure books so you can buy them for a few bucks each if you join their book club or 6 if you buy them at a store.

read The Girl Next Door in a day, couldn't put it down,... now I'm reading The Lost,.. loving it. He's a great author, also a great guy. I met him at a horror fest a few months ago. I have a lot of respect for authors that will actually talk to you like a person.
