I am the biggest Joe Lansdale fan on the planet.

He is the king.

Did you see Bubba Ho-Tep?

Then you might know a little something about Joe.

The man writes the best dirty southern prose out there.

Anyone?

I actually challenged Joe to a fist-fight for the title of "Number 1 Mojo Story Teller in the World" which he currently holds. I offered to fly to his dojo, and fight my way through his pupils in ancient Japanese etiquette until I got to him - with horror mags like Wicked Karnival covering it. Make a big spectacle of it with bands and everything. Maybe a Schnitzel wagon or something. Alas, he declined, suggesting we grab a bite to eat instead. Awesome guy, though. I still have those e-mails we passed back and forth. Definitely among my top three writers, if not my favorite.

If you like dirty Texas prose, you may want to check out "Highway 59" archived over at www.sinistercity.com or my dirty Texas werewolf tale "Die Junkyard Hunde" in "The Star-Spangled Zombie" available at lulu.com. But I wouldn't recommend buying that.

He is the fokking coolest.

When Skylab dropped all over Nacadoches Texas a few years back, I emailed him and got a cool reply from him. The man is real.

At the time I was teaching a 10th grade english class and was letting my best students read some of my Lansdale collection on the side. I told him what I was up to and he suggested a title of two for them.

The man is freaking cool.

I still have those emails too.

I just got The Drive-In graphic novel and have been reading it to my daughter as a bedtime story... I glanced ahead, though and think that'll have to come to an abrupt halt, haha.

I have gone through similar experiences with my offspring.
