Older Horror

Older Horror

There are a lot of older horror out there that is plenty scary. How about trading those Leprechaun movies in for some old Vincent Price Poe movies or when I was young there were those joke movies like House and House 2 and a great one called April Fools Day, very funny slasher and has a surprise ending. I miss the horror I grew up with. This would help fight the repetition.

You guys have picked some pretty great genre's in the past. I'm totally in to the Asian horror; the originals are much better than the American remakes. Keep trying, the only problem I have with Fearnet is the repetition.

I grew up with the Classics and Famous Monsters of Filmland.

I find that the old black-and-white films from the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's have an atmosphere that more modern films cannot pull off.  Films like "M", "Bride of Frankenstein", "Dracula", "I Walked with a Zombie", "The Seventh Victim", etc., often allowed the viewer to use their own imagination.  The horror was often off-screen.  The mind is a scarier place than the movie.

I see that they are remaking "The Wolfman".  I will probably not see it.  The Classics, as a rule, should be left alone and not remade.  Sadly, all we get are remakes and sequels.  You have to look very hard for originality.  I, too, like the Asian and now European Cinema with films like "Dead Snow", "Let the Right One In", "[rec]", "Ju-on", "Shutter", "The Host", just to name a few.

Hey! How old you wanna get? I have over 400 in my library, starting with 'Nosferatu'! My faves are mostly 70's horror, (ask anyone in my friends list), and 50's "Atomic Age" horror! You know, 'It Came From Beneath The Sea' (my all-time fave), 'Them', 'Earth Vs. The Spider', 'The Giant Gila Monster', 'The Amazing Colossal Man', 'The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms', movies like these! I even have my almost 4 year old grandson watching the old B/W stuff with me! He LOVES them! Horror movie fans gotta come from somewhere! Are YOU doing your part to keep the genre going? I LOVE horror, and always will! Vincent Price is THE MAN!!! (we're not worthy, we're not worthy!)lol I have most of his movies, eventually, I will have them all! There is no originality in the new movies. Remakes and re-hashes! Even the ones that aren't straight copies of the originals, the ideas have been done before! Are there no more original ideas? I hope not, but, I'm beginning to wonder! Anyway, I'll get off the soap box, for now!               Later!               Kaboom
