The Misfits: Danzig, Graves, or Only as frontman?

The Misfits: Danzig, Graves, or Only as frontman?

Surely there are some members of the fiend club lurking about here.

Just curious as to who out there listens to the Misfits and which incarnation you prefer.

Don't get me wrong, I love Jerry Only for keeping the band alive for 30 years, but I wish he'd step back away from the mic.

Michael Graves was a solid singer and brought a lot to the band in its bombastic, 90's metal days, but the band had morphed into almost a cartoon of itself by then.

For my money, the man is Glen Danzig.  He was a bit on the hateful side sometimes(always) but his musical style, lyrics, and voice made the Misfits what they were.

I'm not a big fan of his post-Misfits work, but as long as he recorded with them, I loved everything.

I'm not a fan of Misfits, so this discussion needs to happen between more knowledgeable and interested folk who are not me.

All I'm going to say is Danzig is primadonna piece of shit who has his head so far up his ass that he can't see how much of a douchebag he is.

Earlier this year I went to the Blackest of the Black tour, with Danzig headlining.  Personally I went to see Dimmu Borgir, Moonspell, and Skeletonwitch, and left before Danzig got on stage.

Danzig decided to be an asswipe and forbid ANY recording devices into the venue.  No cameras, not even cell phones!  If you pulled out your cellphone to send a fucking text, A TEXT, not take a picture, not record the shitty song he was about to sing, you got tapped on the shoulder by security and told to leave, right then and there.  No "put the phone away", nothing, instant strike 3, you're out.

What. The. Fuck?!

Yes, I have to agree that Glen is a raging butt-hole...

That being said, nobody did horror punk better.

As far as the cell phone thing goes at his show, that does sound a little extreme, but can't people put their cell phones down for more than five minutes?  Why would someone HAVE to send a text or make a call in the middle of a concert?  Maybe I'm just too damned old, but I think we're all too attached to our techno-crack.  Considering I saw ABC producers using their camera phones to video the Michael Jackson memorial when told not to video or photograph, I don't think that banning cell phone use in a concert is such a radical idea.

Personally speaking, I do not bring my cell phone with me into the concert venue.  I like to get in the mosh pit, and I wouldn't hear it go off anyway, so in my mind, why risk it?

That being said, I understand why people would bring their phones with them.

I'll give you an example, a friend of mine told me a story of where the death metal band Nile was playing, and after the show, the lead vocalist was walking around greeting fans, and one fan came up to him and asked him to speak to his buddy who couldn't make it to the show, so Dallas (the vocalist) did, talked to him for a few minutes, and probably made someone's day.  That could not have happened without a cell phone.

Beyond that, taking pictures at concerts (at least the ones where the performer has not banned them) to me is fine.  Its a personal keepsake of the evening, nowadays, instead of cameras, its a cellphone.  Again, I personally, don't go this route, I prefer to bring an actual camera with me, but seeing as how I'm not opposed to taking photos during a show, I have to let camera phones slide by proxy.

Keep in mind, the only kind of shows I go to are extreme metal gigs.  Most people there don't whip out their cellphones and keep them out the entire time anyway because they're too busy trying to keep their balance.  Occasionally someone will risk a picture of the band on stage, but its not overly done in my mind.  So I'm not too aware of the cell phone activity during less-violent gigs, lol.

Banning flash photography, I can understand to a degree.  I've done stage performances myself for theatre, and it is mightily distracting, and even potentially dangerous, but banning ALL forms of recording devices?  That does seem rather extreme to me.

I really love Glen Danzig, his voice and lyrics some of the best, BUT Mr. Danzig is a raging hemorrhoid on the butt hole of every band he has been in. He is such a poser primadonna! and if you even approach him with a question re: The misfits he goes bullistic. Too bad too cause he is good, and a little scary.

I do like all the DANZIG releases they  rock your socks off.

I agree that Glenn as a person is an almighty douche but as an artist, he carved hilmself a spot like few others have. He is unique in his own way, kinda like King Diamond or Gwar did, and I have to give him credit for that.

As far as the cell phone business goes, let me tell you Glenn is not the only one that does that. And yeah, it think he's an over-indulging power-hungry knucklehead for doing that but he's still a pretty decent artist,

i would have to say danzig because he is soo interesting he has such a weird personality...

hes a total douche but yet had such an influence on punk rock history.. and of course his solo work was just well i think nine inch nails wouldnt be what they are without him.

graves by far as the most musical talent and there is something about his voice that can give me chills especially in the song saturday night.

and poor only.... his vocals are shit.. but he has spirit if that counts for anything.. i just think hes been riding on the misfits gravy train too long
