Population 436

Population 436

This past weekend I watched "Population 436" (free on demand from FEARNET via comcast). It is a combination of the "Wicker Man", and that awesome "Supernatural" episode with the hook tree man. Still, I enjoyed it and mostly for Jeremy Sisto who I think is a completely under-rated actor. His name is actually the only reason I clicked on the movie.

Jeremy plays a census worker (TIMELY subject alert) who is sent to a small picturesque town to investigate why the population is always the same. It is more of a "mood" piece ala Wicker Man than a "jump" scare without any gore and a just a hint of sex. Most surprising part of the movie? (this is not a spoiler) a likable character in town is played by Limp Bizqit frontman Fred Durst- and he didn't suck!

I recommend it if you're looking for a free movie that is more twilight zone than horror. I think Tweens would esp. like it since the set-up may be "new" to them. It made me think how funny it would be to cut a new trailer of the Michael J Fox "Doc Hollywood" movie as a horror movie. Esp. now that Woody Harrellson is in the genre.

Have a great weekend!

Oh I really liked it! I thought it was interesting... not the most original obviously but there can never be enough crazy townie movies right? Original for is kind.

i thought this movie was awesome...it runs on similar planes with THE LOTTERY and THE SPRING.  and i totally agree with you...Sisto is highly under-rated and often i watch films just cause he's in em, and most of the time...they're decent films!

It was more than decent, kept me interested. I was surprised to see Fred Durst - that kinda made me squeal like a little girl.

I've been on the fence as to whether or not to watch this one...thanks for helping me come down on the side of "Yes!" Smile

Population 436.  I saw part of this on fearnet t.v. but not the whole movie.  Than it came to on demand for free and I watched it.  I liked it a lot, but of course, I love a different wide range of all movies.  Especially my horrors!  If you like unique, kinda out there fictional horrors, than you'll like this one!  Not an "A" movie, kind of like a "made for t.v. movie".  I would give it two thumbs up for creepyness and originality.
