Looking for Great Lesser Known Alien Movies

spookyboo's picture

Ok, so now I'm looking for some great lesser known Alien movies to add to my movie list.  I saw Altered and really liked it.  I've seen all the Alien and Predator movies, but is there a few others that someone might know of, that are great and not ruined by shitty special effects? I've seen The Puppet Masters with D. Sutherland and also 4th Kind, The Sphere, etc.  Any ideas?

Might I suggest an 'Alien' knockoff called 'Creature'? Done around the mid-80s and stars great german actor Klaus Kinski. A very good, forgotten film, but hard 2 find.

I think you hit every movie i was thinking of except for The Abyss. I know it isn't the best movie but how can you not like a movie with Ed Harris

LOL. I left out the ABYSS because Im not a big fan of Cameron. In the Abyss, the "heros" wont help save the lives of some 200 men claiming the danger, but EASILY decide to do it once they are offered enough money to SMILINGLY go on the "dangerous" assignment, all the while the creator of the installation is more worried about her machinery than people. These are the heros. BUT they are willing to risk their lives for aliens. . . . . HUH? And the "villain" is a hero who is suffering from nitrogen narcosis. Cameron is too much of an ass for me to take. I DID enjoy the movie until I saw it a second time and started realizing the "values" it insinuated. I dont let politics get in the way of the Cinema to a point. But kids look at some of these too and dont realize the twisted values.

ANYWAY. . . . ON WITH THE SHOW!

BTW ! You are absolutely right! ED HARRIS is a great actor. LOVED him in the recent western he did which name escapes me with Viggo Mortensen. He adds to every movie he is in.

I never saw the "theatrical" cut of the film, I have only seen then the extended 3 hour cut so I am not sure if it is portrayed differently in one over the other,  but the crew never thinks they are going on a rescue mission, it is a salvage mission from the start.

Anyone for Enemy Mine or The Last Starfighter?

HELLFIGHTER's picture

LOL. I must admit, THE LAST STARFIGHTER is a guilty pleasure, bordering on childish but completely enjoyable. Im tempted to say it was a kids movie but enjoyed it immensely as an adult so that wont go. Robert Preston surprised me to be on this show in full alien makeup, since he starred in so many Hollywood classics like HOW THE WEST WAS WON and Music Man. ENEMY MINE has been a longtime favorite and I own the dvd. Me and the guys still use the line pointing at each other and ribbing 'YOU OOOGLY HEDD!" That Gossett as an alien says to laugh at his human enemy, Quaid. Nice picks.

Whassup, fellas? I happen to personally think that 'The Abyss' is a terrific film! I've seen both versions and the theatrical one is the best-the director's cut makes it an entirely different film complete with different camera angles and re-written dialogue-can't get into it. 'The Last Starfighter' is also a terrific film. HELLFIGHTER, the name of the Ed Harris western is 'Appaloosa' with Viggo Mortenson and Ren'ee Zellweger (?) And I have another one for U-ever heard of a low-budget mid 80's sci-fi film 'Galaxy of Terror'? It stars Ray Walston, Edward Albert, Robert Englund and Erin Moran from 'Happy Days'. Sort of an alien movie, but NOT. Just acquired it, been looking 4 it for years!

OK, totally showing my age with this (it isn't horror, i know) but I always have a soft spot in my heart for Explores.

Also, 1985 was a great year for pop culture type flicks
