WHICH COUNTRY MAKES THE BEST MOVIES?

WHICH COUNTRY MAKES THE BEST MOVIES?

HorrorHeroine's picture

OKAY, Its safe to say true horror fans will love many of the USA greats and Classics BUT ..... Despite USA dominating the horror genre i feel European Horror films tend to be more consistant with their quality where as the usa bang out film after film, namy being crap or pretty standard.

I also feel as like South Korea so far judging from the films i have seen do actuali make the best films, particularly thrillers, not seen one bad films from them.

What are your oppinions?

Which country makes the best films? OR what do other countries do better than others?

European horror, they have some good one's. 28 days, 28 wk's great achievements.  spain also madesome great movies. i dont think australia will be in the running. they have a few good one. italy some great directors/writers. this is a thinker, so many great movies in evey decade. i'm going to go think on this one.

this is a good one.

I think in modern times the Spanish are the best for creating a CREEPY atmosphere. Love the mood and ambiance that they seem to generate almost effortlessly. Where they are lacking is in the "bang" at the end of the buildup.

The French have a great knack for violent, slasher/serial killer stuff. I think they should team up with the Spanish. The Spanish start and the French finish.

I think the Korean OLD BOY is the best revenge/plotted movie ever made by anyone and they can tell a tale. They suck at monsters though.

The British are still in there swinging. If I could only pick one studio it would have to be Hammer in their heyday but the NEW Hammer did an excellent remake in LET ME IN. I think they should go back to their roots of Gothic Horror but the Brits can be incredible story tellers when they are cooking up a horror. They have just lost their way IN HORROR. I enjoyed the atmosphere and story of THE LADY IN BLACK although they could have chosen a less wooden actor.

Americans have a knack for creating Iconic horror villains but they are becoming like Stephen King. For every good one there are twenty mediocre or downright crappy ones. I DO believe that in chasing the dollar, they are also allowing amateurs to flood the market with substandard crap and making it harder to find the gem in the toilet they are creating. Yeah, yeah, yeah. . . . . I know we have a lot of wanna be directors that will get steamed. . . . life is hard. As one of the guys SPENDING THE MONEY AND TIME TO WATCH THEM. . . . I dont want to see someones backyard cinema homework that mom, dad and uncle Bill REALLY loved.

Havent seen anything new Italian, unless I wasnt AWARE it was Italian.

James Whale, He introduced me to horror films. Considering he's from England you would think he would take it but then if you take a look at the Italian horror directors/writers from the 40's-90's, HOLY SHIT! Where do i begin? Mario Bava, Iiccardo Freda, Antonio Margheriti, Lorenzo Sabatini, Massimo Pupillo, and Mario Caiano the list is endless. so did the Italians rule the 70's i think so.

Then there is, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Joe Dante, Romero and so many more all American. David Cronenberg from Canada. So when i look at horror movies, i take in to consideration where the director/writer is from and how good the horror in the film is. I enjoy them all.

What i'm about to say is not in anyway RACIST.(so people save your bullshit for a later time)

most of the early evening i was in a discussion about, IN THE HISTORY OF HORROR FILM MAKING DO YOU KNOW OF A BLACK WRITER/DIRECTOR? and if so. WOULD THE HORROR BIFFERENT?
