I'm getting tired of b!tching about stupid stories.
I'll shoot for 'Love Object' today, the George Romero one maybe tonight or tomorrow, just for history/context's sake. The cr@pfest goes on the back burner - just to see A) how bad sucky it is, and B) what $5m down the hole looks like.

Genres: Crime | Horror | Mystery | Thriller
Budget: $1,200,000 (estimated)
Box office: $103 million
"The screenplay was written in 2001, but after failed attempts to get the script produced in Wan and Whannell's home country, Australia, they were urged to travel to Los Angeles. In order to help attract producers they shot a low-budget short film from a scene out of the script. This proved successful in 2003 as producers from Evolution Entertainment were immediately attached and also formed a horror genre production label Twisted Pictures. The film was given a small budget and shot on a short schedule of 18 days." Wiki

Wanna see the low-budget short film?!!

Ratings: 6.0/10 from 37,564 users
Genres: Horror | Mystery | Thriller (I guess the mystery is gone by now. Waaaaa.)
Budget: $11,000,000 (estimated)  (LOL! Nearly ten times the original's cost, cr@ppier reviews, and.. )
Box office: $68.2 million (... barely squeeking out a profit.)
"[The director] Greutert said that the victims in traps would be more one-on-one with the trap and would be more personal to them. This was compared to Saw IV and V, which most of the traps were set in big rooms and involved several people at one time." Wiki

(FWIW, I really don't care for psycho madmen stories. Prolly won't watch any more of this franchise, of which I've only seen I & II.)

Ratings: 6.2/10 from 11,571 users
Genres: Crime | Drama | Horror | Thriller
Country: France | Switzerland
Budget: $3,000,000 (estimated)

"It was intended to be one of the 8 Films to Die For at Horrorfest 2007, but due to the MPAA giving the film an NC-17 rating, it instead hit a limited number of 10 US theaters unrated for one weekend where it grossed $9,913 before being released on DVD the following week." Wiki

The Legend of Bloody Mary (2008) http://www.fearnet.com/movies/legend-bloody-mary-0
Ratings: 2.9/10 from 371 users
Genres: Horror | Thriller
Budget: $1,000,000 (estimated)

"Critical reception
The film has received negative reviews. Tom Becker of the DVD Verdict said, "The film is guilty of being a bloody bore. The accused are sentenced to stand in front of a mirror chanting, "I believe in Ed Wood," until they learn that bad movies can be entertaining, too". Horror Movies and Stuff give half a star out of 4, saying: "Lame antagonist, boring script, hardly any blood and gore, cheap scares, and bad acting by most of the cast". Movies Made Me give 4.4 out of 10. Eat Horror said: "This is a muddled story with plot holes aplenty and terrible acting even by low budget horror standards. The direction is all over the place with too many hand-held shots and the meagre effects are cheap and terrible. You would think the Bloody Mary story would eventually spawn a decent horror film but this isn't it". Home Theater Info rated B+ giving 7 out of 10." Wiki

Zombie (1979) Zombi 2 (original title) http://www.fearnet.com/movies/zombie
Ratings: 6.7/10 from 11,986 users
Genres: Horror
Country: Italy
Budget: ITL 410,000,000 (estimated) = $262,000 USD

"Zombi 2 (also known as Zombie, Island of the Living Dead, Zombie Island, Zombie Flesh-Eaters and Woodoo) is a 1979 zombie horror film directed by Lucio Fulci. It is perhaps the best-known of Fulci's films[1] and made him a horror icon. Though the title suggests this is a sequel to Zombi (the Italian title of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead), the films are unrelated. When the film was released in 1979 it was scorned for its extremely bloody content, notably by the UK's Conservative government." Wiki

And FWIW, I actually enjoy watching some of the more poorly rated films just to keep a regular tab on where the "bad" threshold is. Foreign films especially have a difficult time finding any respectable appreciation by lazy-@ss American audiences. And it's not like many of the well rated films of any nation of origin I don't find less than entertaining.
While many people find the mere presence of blood and guts "entertaining" I do not, and instead more on the story's sensible construct irregardless of guts and gore - and always understanding of budget limitations, directorial experience, and any cultural gaps to bridge.

No budget provided, but shot on DV, like many of the writer/director's films in the past decade, primarily focussing on serial killers and receiving extremely low ratings.
I'm going to guess the budget's around $500k, give or take a $100k.

Director Ulli Lommel may be more interesting than his films!

Headzup! He's also the writer/director of  FEARnet.com's upcoming 'Ulli Lommel's BTK Killer!' and 'Dungeon Girl' to be released who knows when, but it shows up on a site search for the director's name.

If you felt compelled (and I might be next week) you could watch all four back to back to get a good feel for a director's particular style with an understanding of budget and resource constraints.
