Inside - A short horror film

Hey guys,

I'm looking for some brutal honest opinions. Bring them on with both barrels!

Here is a short horror I shot the other week.

A curious young photographer discovers more than she bargains for when she decides to explore off the beaten track...

That looked great, i have some camera nerd friends that will have some fun disecting this to figure out how you got this look and what camera/lens/filter combo's were used.

the volume levels on the score (which i like) were a bit too loud.......but i was listening to it with ear buds, so take that with a grain of salt i guess.

Is there some specific story from the DMZ that informed this short?

Cheers mate. The camera was a Blackmagic Cinema Camera using Canan EF lenses with Tiffen filters.

As far as the volume I agree with you. The film was mixed on a large system and sounds quite different on laptops and earbuds, losing much of the low end.

Call me dumb but I have no idea what DMZ is??

Thanks for your feedbacK!!

The opening dragged a bit, otherwise a cool short!

You're a verty talented filmmaker, keep making more and they will get better.

Thanks for your kind words and your feedback. I see your point in regards to the start being a little slow, I think in hindsight I should have introduced the badguy watching her a little earlier on to build the suspense, then complimenting the slow build more.

But in saying that I don't mind the atmosphere build up.

On to the next horror... much faster and much funnier..

Morning (east coast USA) Stuart,

You're suggestion sounds great, save it for the feature length version.  Where was "Inside" shot?  Neat location and I'm trying to verify if I heard an accent from your actress.  You should farm this out to short film competitions, I believe "The Monster Channel" (www.100ymm.com) accepts films with a great deal of harassment.

Best,
Mark

Hey Mark,

Not sure if there will be a feature version of this idea, I do however have a few horror feature scripts and ideas ready to go... but would require a budget :P One day...

I am looking into Monster Channel now! Thanks for the suggestion.

I am based south-east Victoria in Australia, just outside Melbourne. We shot at a friends property in a town called Pearcedale, it's a full functioning recording studio, quite amazing really. Looks like an abandoned building outside... inside, thousands of dollars worth of gear. haha.

I will be chasing film fests for sure.

Cheers mate,

Stu.

Hey Mark,

I have been to a few places around this globe and I do have to say Australia is the best. haha. :)
Just have to watch out for all the things that can kill you.

I'llcheck out that Shout forum for sure.

As far as other stuff I have done, I have got some bits and pieces on my Vimeo including a trailer for a comedy feature I spent the last 2 years putting together called Charlie Bonnet. Check it out;

Also I own a little production company down here producing cinema advertising:

Lot of motion graohic animation stuff there. My brother teaches Flash animation actually at a University here, heaps are people are getting into it, I suppose thats how they do the majority of TV animations now???

Evening Stu,

Didn't Australia give us Rupert Murdoch, that's pretty horriffic.

Your work is wonderful, you will make it as a film maker (for a living).
Your zombie film and other comedies remind me of 2 shorts (trailers below).

Yah, Flash is popular, but another Adobe product will eventually do it in.

Best,
Mark

You're a good man Mark,

And yes, sorry about Murdoch, and Nicole Kidman...Funny enough I live 5 minutes away from Rupert Murdoch's late mother, her estate is in Langwarrin, just up the road...

Fido wont work but the familiar trailer looks great, love horror with humour.

See ya around mate!

Stu.
