Favorite REMAKES

I know, I know. . . . . . many people pan remakes or the THOUGHT of a remake without giving it a chance. Purists at heart ? Or narrow minded ? Or simply sold on the idea that the first is a classic ? (A genuine truth for most great movies) BUT. . . . . on many an occasion a remake has either stood side by side with the original, kinda the old classic and the NEW classic, and other times the remake has actually triumphed over the original. My favorite remakes are

THE FLY, RETURN OF THE FLY. (LOVE the great Vinny Price but the remakes rock) THE BLOB, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, THE CRAZIES, THE HILLS HAVE EYES, THE THING, HOUSE OF WAX, THE TOOLBOX MURDERS (2004), FRIGHT NIGHT.

What are your favorite remakes ? Why ?

whenever someone mentions remakes I usually close my eyes, cover my ears and scream LALALALALA, but i definetly agree with  The Fly, Dawn of the Dead, and Invasion of the body snatchers,  I respectfully disagree with Last House on the left included, just cause I thought that the low budget and B actors are what gave it that grindhouse feel.   I always watch the remakes and they dont make me angry, mostly bewildered as to why an ardent fan would want to remake a movie they love.

I agree with the beginning thread. I always hate hearing theres a remake comin, but always gotta see'em.  Evil Dead remake could be good, but so many break throughs were made in the original set. I like seeing American makes of foreign films and comparing the two. Have a good one

Id love to see an American Remake version of Martyrs, its one of my favourite foregin films and i think with a bit of tweaking and expanding of the story could be one hell of a guy punch for the viewer. I heard Daniel Staam (director of The Last Exorcsim) would be directing it or was or whatever. But if you keep the emotional violence in tact and the directors add their own thing to it, Damn that could be one hell of a movie.

If you think those are good you should check out the originals.

I cant imagine a remake improving on MARTYRS other than to make it different but. . . . . . . . . anythings possible.

I think THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON would easily be good fodder for a remake if they dont sink it with CGI or a cheap budget.
