So Evil Dead saw it last night, Thought it was amazing.  Best remake i have ever seen since Pirhanna 3D and the most intense film expirence i have had in a long time. Scary.....NO the most terrifying film you will ever expirence NO but the most intense fun adrenaline filled film in a long time ? HELL YES. and i am so surprised cause here is a movie that's a remake of an 80's horror classic directed by a first time director.......EVERYTHING WAS GOING AGAINST IT. Oh, you a horror fan and went to film school here go remake Evil Dead 0_0......but it turned out great, i am going for round 2 Tuesday.

Hoping someone here can help.

I cover the box office for an entertainment site called TheWrap. I've noticed that fans of horror movies always seem to grade tougher than the general public when it comes to exit polls after movies. It seems no matter what the movie, it gets a "C" rating or worse. "Evil Dead" got a C+ this weekend.

Why do you think that's the case?

Thanks

Well this movie is SUPER GRAPHIC VIOLENT AND GORY. as horror fans we love that stuff. Its been a long fuckin time since we had this type of flick. The genreal public who really didn't know what the original Evil Dead was or had scene Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness and went its gonna be a horror comedy like Cabin in the Woods was last year.
They went in and got something i bet they didnt expect, i bet they were shocked and stunned and was like OMG that was too much, or Ew that waas soo disgusting never seeing it again. As a result of that people would be give the C.

I never trust Cinemascore, i find that the grading is just idk flawed.

yeah like what fearless, says , the majority of peeps going to see this prob aint seen a proper good horror and know nothing like what us fans do, so its really tit for tat , a grade C, most of all the reviews i seen are giving it a 8 outta 10 so in the horror world thats prob more like a A-, so thats it really!

Everyone that isn't a horror fan doesn't like it and everyone that is a horror fan loves it. I think the blogger "Freddy in Space" found this one review of a guy who gave it a 1 star, and in his review said the original Evil Dead was a spoof..........i am like WOW, obviously you do not know your stuff.

I DO think horror fans grade tougher than the general public but are more accepting of "B" efforts and even lower as we love horror in many forms. Just because people are in a theater doesnt mean they are all horror fans. Particularly in a new release. I think in a widely advertised release, you will get a 50/50 audience of horror heads and the simply curious. The proof will be in how well the film does on DVD as true horror heads will purchase the film regardless of having seen it at the theater or even more so.
