An advance party from the Paxton Oil & Gas Company are going through a forest in upstate NY in order to mark out spots to start drilling in anticipation of a reversal of the current ban on hydrofracking. One of the three men is a young college student that is sending out location information to his girlfriend who is heading up a group of anti-drilling activists to counteract the drilling company.
The group of activists enters the forest following the drilling party in order to destroy the markers that the drilling company has set. An ancient beast has been called forth and is hunting everyone. Deep in the forest with no markers to follow back and no cell service, both parties are lost and confused. The oil men & activist try to out maneuver as each other as night falls as the Beast hunts.
