I hated this movie! It was boring and pointless! This is just my opinion of course.
Six years after aliens invaded Earth, a security force maintains tenuous control in the Infected Zone straddling the U.S.-Mexican border. Andrew (Scoot McNairy), a photographer, is documenting this war-torn area when he's interrupted by an unexpected rescue mission. Samantha (Whitney Able), daughter of a media mogul who just happens to be his boss, needs an escort home, and Andrew reluctantly takes on the job. Directed by Gareth Edwards
Below is the review I wrote and posted on Netflix after watching the movie!
Spoiler Alert... I think? I feel like I must have lost some scenes in the Instant stream or something!?!
The film played out almost EXACTLY as the description. All that was missing was that we see the giant walking octopi in 3-5 scenes in total doing absolutely nothing except walking, waving their tentacles around, and in one scene picking up a pick-up truck and dropping it. Andrew and Samantha (apparently) fall for each other somewhere along the way. They make it to an abandoned gas station in America where they each make a phone call, watch two octopi play footsie, Andy and Sam kiss, an army hummer pulls up, and The End!
Throw in some dialog and that is EXACTLY what I saw and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE! I've seen more plot, character deveopement, humor, sense of excitement, and climactic endings in one 30-second television commercial than there is in this ENTIRE movie! And I honestly feel I am NOT exaggerating or being over-dramatic with this review. Even considering this was a low-budget indepentent project (and I Love independent films), this film was a complete waste of my time and I hope I can save others from wasting theirs. It's not even worth watching for free.
