I had a thought early this morning...regarding the state of Horror at the moment. I made a comment in an earlier Blog "A Thought.....Unknown Authors = New Horror Ideas.....Discuss" and using unknown Horror authors as a source of inspiration. Well my thought is to expand on this....and look at Horror Anthologies.
The emergence of the film "Trick "R" Treat" a collection of short stories with an common theme running through. Ok I know some Horror fans disliked the film but you can't deny it being a little gem of a film. "Trick "R" Treat" is the first film since "Creep Show" to have largely positive reviews. This is where my idea arised from......instead of doing full length horror films which I've found to dramatically lose the plot towards the end and have rather rushed endings which leave viewers going what the hell......perhaps focus on short anthologies with a running theme.....also remake and do some of the Anthologies from some of the well known horror masters. I know Stephen King's "Graveyard Shift" was done as a full length film, but it sadly loses it's way half way through.....but by focusing on the story and rain the story in so it mirrors the original. "The Mist" is an example of a short story that was extended to a full motion film....but I felt it went on a bit too long.
Anthologies to look at:
Dean Koontz: Strange Highways, The Book of Counted Sorrows
Stephen Kings: Night Shift, Skeleton Crew, Four Past Midnight
This is just an idea and doesn't have to be just the masters of horror but can cover all Horror Anthologies...........What do the rest of the Horror world think.......?????
