My Halloween 2 Review Blog

Much like all horror fans, I was very excited to hear that famed new horror director Rob Zombie was created a new Halloween. I was giddy like a school girl, to say the least, but as I delve deep into this new idea I felt it fell short of something mediocre. The story held some good elements but when you heard the less than enthusiastic provocative dialogue, it took away the whole experience for me. Throwing numerous F-bombs does not qualify as dialogue. Yes, I’m aware there are people who curse continuously but this is just immature and cheap. Heck, we all have our moments of such things. I’m not saying you shouldn’t use it, that’s not my point, but use it respectfully. However, I found that some of the symbolic elements of the storyline were perfect for the mythology of who Michael Myers is. A good example is the hallucinogenic style images of his mother and his innocence aiding him in his ventures through the dark and depressed, I feel that was represented perfectly. Another thing I liked is the end because it felt epic in the sense of horror movie endings, in my opinion anyway.

Sadly, that is where the praise stops for me, because the rest of the movie was something that felt neglected. In the first movie we saw Michael get shot, which seem to showcase a fatal headshot that killed him, but during the second movie it’s as if he was only scathed. It seems like a last minute discussion to me. Yes, I know that Michael is supposedly unstoppable but I feel that Rob Zombie seem to have wanted to make it more realistic. I don’t know. Then there was Loomis, who in the first movie seem like a good guy that wanted the best for Michael and watched out him, but in the second movie he didn’t a complete U-turn and turned into a complete and arrogant jerk, as if the first one was disregarded as a phase or something. If you’re going to sit there and create a character, don’t change him for the second movie because you feel it was something different. Another character that I felt was changed for the worse is Michael himself, which a handful of fans agree. That was not Michael in that movie, rather some brutish vagrant that took away the mysticism of Michael Myers. Everyone relates to him being strange and brooding entity with the white mask. It was more than just a mask to me, but a symbolism of the stoic and dull nature of his emotions he felt through the series. Yes, he donned the mask several times but that wasn’t enough in my book. It took away the idea of who Michael Myers was. I am not saying that they shouldn’t of done that, don’t get me wrong, but it could of been done a different way. And no I don’t want it to be like the original movie. Oh, well, anyway, that’s my take on the new Halloween movie.

Final Note: Basically I am saying that it wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't a great movie either. It had some cool elements that is worth seeing.
