in search of ghoulies

Sometimes I think that my interest in horror movies takes me in some weird directions, especially when my collecting starts bordering into that scary area some may call obsession, or hoarding, but which I just like to call passion or pass time, or may be Way of life, or way of staying sane! So anyways I like collecting DVDs, even in this digital age I still love to have phsyical copies of Movies I enjoy, having learned my lesson of regret getting rid of my VHS titles in the begging of the DVD era, I have vowed to maintan my DVD collection and am especially fond of collecting entire Franchises on DVDS, whether I love them (Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween etc.) or just really like them ( Subspecies, Puppetmaster, Children of the corn, Saw) and right now there is no better time for collectors  who want to buy movies on the cheap, even if they are lacking special features, there are a ton of movie collections out there right now, 8 movie packs and so on.... Anyways, the other day I was watching GHOULIES, and I just remembered how much I loved this very well polished turd as a kid, the dialog is hillarious in certain ways to me, "we could play trivial pursuit" Yeah, or Charades, Yeah.... I have an Idea....... Lets do  a ritual"....  haha, to me, that shit is funny or, "my name is dick....you can call me dick",     So used to love renting anything VHS from Empire Pictures, and later FULL MOON as a kid, and after I watched GHOULIES again for the first time in ages, I got this sudden, inexplicable urge to get all four movies in my collection, no matter how much some hate this series, I love it, and I dont know why!  I guess the way some Love Troll 2 and Plan 9 from Outer Space,.... I love Ghoulies and Critters,  Critters was easy to get in that 4 film collection... Ghoulies 1 and 2 has been sold in a double film dvd for awhile now and is easy to score... but GHOULIES III  Go to College is where it gets into rarity, so i found out that an 8 film pack, exclusive to walmart, was released for five dollars, containing Waxwork, 976 Evil 2, The unholy, Chud II, Chopping Mall, Slaughter High, class of 1999 and they ever elusive..... Ghoulies III, i set out each morning after getting out of work to walmart searching for this thing.... some of this five dollar bins are overstuffed and searching through them is an unenviable task, I spent about a week going from walmart to walmart looking for this thing, it used to be, when there were video stores and flea markets, that the search was an enjoyable part of the collecting hobby, but when all there is  is walmart? not much fun... haha I ended up just ordering this thing at more than three times the original price just to satisfy this crazy urge to complete this journey, in my simple world, I really felt great when I checked the mail and got my DVD, feeling quite satisfied, I allso got the much easier to find (and much worse!) ghoulies IV  to finally scratch this itch..... haha, i got long winded here, but anyways i guess theres not much of a moral to this story other than "some men like fishin, and some men like fightin, some men like to hear, the cannonball roarin...... me, I like....um, getting obsessed and drivin all over town spending gas money and time lookin for a Five dollar movie that most would say is a stretch to even call a "B" Movie... haha, I guess thats how it goes for a guy with a hobby!   Anyways, I did see Cabin in The Woods at the theatre, and in my bad habit of comparing everything to another thing, I would say Cabin in the woods is equal parts,  Evil Dead, The Office, Phantasm, and Twilight Zone.....   Thanks to anyone who hung in there with me on this ramble!!!
