So what's the best thing about October besides Halloween? Horror movies galore! (Yes I could of said gore but maybe its a little too cliche...) Most of my free time will be spent searching for the best most inventive horror film October 2011 can bring me... For some reason this year, the box office is a little slow with bringing us the movies we want to see... According to Rotten Tomatoes there is only 5 movies coming out this month?! (well in major box office anyways... and even 2 of those will most likely on come out in either very small arthouse theaters or just in LA and New York) What happened Hollywood?! This is your month to release as many blood and guts, paranormal, demontastic, slutty teenage slashers, and yes because I'm desperate even torture porn... But alas we are left to choose from a handful of lame looking sequels and remakes... It makes me wonder, 'where all the writers?' Have they all just given up and made the obvious move to TV? Don't get me wrong, I'm uber excited about The Walking Dead and American Horror Story, but I crave to see some new cinematic masterpiece on the big screen as well!
Can you name the last great horror movie you saw in Theaters? Sure the first Paranormal Activity made me jump but it didn't scare the shit out of me like the original Ring did. After I saw that I would stare at the static on my television daring it to come to life... Though even that movie only scared me the first time through...
Last years "8 Movies to Die for" left me sad and uninspired... Please give us something to scream about instead of to bitch about!
So which of these sad choices will I end up seeing? As much as I'm kind of sick of viral outbreak movies I will put the money out for Retreat starring Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton. For one Cillian Murphy is a fantastic actor and seriously needs to be in more films. 28 Days Later was a zombie masterpiece in my eyes and really changed the genre. Will this movie be as good? Probably not but I will give it a go anyway!
The Thing releases this week and no I am not very excited about this remake... I love the original, it still scares me just like a good horror movie should. There are very few remakes that do the original justice and I highly doubt that this one will be any different. However I will try not to make a judgement until I acutally see it...
So if anyone is actually reading this or cares for that matter, stay tuned for my reviews of this months Frightfest and more! Now I will return to watching Psychoville... God I love the Britsh!
