First Time

Currently working on a short project, "First Time", based on the screenplay by Pia Cook.

A young hitchhiker. A stranger with a secret. A killer on the loose. A lonely road. Hotness. This one has it all. A new American Gothic horror film. Follow it on Twitter, @FirsttimeMovie and on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/FirstTimeMovie .

This will be my production blog, among other things, where I will whine about budgeting, clamor for actors, bang the drum in promotion and generally allow myself to write crap about the movie, the process of making it, and what I do with it when it's done.

Right now, the process of what I would call sort of 'soft' prep is underway, having just gotten the option sorted out with the writer, Pia. The coverage on this screenplay is really great so far, which I knew it would be. I wouldn't have chosen it if I didn't think it was great! But as the producer, it's really nice to have professional readers tell you what you already know. Makes me understand the studios' perspective a bit. Even as an independent, I know I like it, but I want to make something other people will like too. If I have NO audience, it's not much fulfillment as a filmmaker, right?

Currently the DP and I are looking at two possibilities for format, Arri Alexa and 35mm film. I'm pushing more toward film, but I think the budget and the workflow, as well as the low-light capability, are going to drive us toward the Alexa. Except for one thing:

Right now my biggest problem is getting the preliminary budget done for funding, and to do that I have some major challenges to solve with filming in a truck cab.

I'll post more when I know what I think, and have a budget. Money mouth
