I have watched Audition because it is considered one of the best. I felt the movie was not well done and not scary or suspenseful. The torture scene was nice but thats about it. I also have watched The Eye which many people rave about - I felt the movie was more of an action movie mixed with The Sixth Sense rather than horror. Every J-horror American remake seems to be mediocre as well. I have pretty much given up on asian horror straight up. Is there any Asian horror movie that will change my stance on asian horror?

Another that u might check out is Three...Extremes. It's Directors, Fruit Chan, Park Chan Wook, and Takashi Mikke. Three different short movies. I was pretty disturbed by it. Watched it late at night and couldn't hardly sleep. The one short, titled "Dumplings" is pretty f'ing sick. If you buy the DVD the second disc has the full length feature of that one. Other than that all I can suggest sick wise is Ichi the Killer. Total Torture and gore madness! Makes Hostel seem like a picnic in comparison. Good luck to you.Edited by anlilygirl on 6/30/2007 at 09:32 CST

OH! 3 extremes is a great recomendation! I cant remember jumping so many times when watching a movie. If you watch the first 3 extremes and like it, then dont even bother with the second one.

Yeah, I really couldn't get into Three Extremes II. It looked great, but the pacing was WAY too slow... and slow pacing usually doesn't bother me...

Thanks for the info. I'll check out Three extremes. I have heard good things about it but I never pursued the film. The same goes for Ichi. I'll definitely check them out.

Personally, I love thick suspenseful atmosphere, great camera angles, stylistic imagery, and the surreal. Gruesome death scenes never hurt either. So obviously, I love Argento, Fulci, Bava, Soavi, Rollin, Franco, etc etc. Any asian horror film that tackles similiar ground I will probably like, and I am certainly looking for. I noticed some similarities with Argento's work and The Audition but I personally thought it was kind of forced.

Perhaps if I want to see that type of horror I should just stick to Euro-horror, but at the same time I'm trying to expand my horizons.

Cheers.

I recommend "Rampo Noir." It's an anthology with five short films based on Japanese author Rampo Edogawa (who some consider the Japanese Edgar Allan Poe). The films dabble deeply in the abstract in terms of their non-linear narrative structure and the use of symbols, visual metaphors, and stylistic imagery and they all explore the sickness of the human mind. Tons of deranged visuals, tons of great angles and shots, tons of surrealism.

I will never be able to watch Audition just because of all the needles, and needle torture makes me sick. D:

As for some good movies.....Ringu and Ju-On were pretty good as far as originals go. Reincarnation was pretty cool too. It had a great twist, IMO. :3

There was another one, but I can't remember what it was called. About a girl who made people commit suicide. Or something. ..; i saw it a long time ago~

Maybe your thinking of suicide club? There is a cutsey girl band that makes people commit suicide in that. Thats another highly recomended movie.
