I have watched Audition because it is considered one of the best. I felt the movie was not well done and not scary or suspenseful. The torture scene was nice but thats about it. I also have watched The Eye which many people rave about - I felt the movie was more of an action movie mixed with The Sixth Sense rather than horror. Every J-horror American remake seems to be mediocre as well. I have pretty much given up on asian horror straight up. Is there any Asian horror movie that will change my stance on asian horror?

Hi
check out nightmares. i love asian horror movies but i do agree with you concerning audition. i am sorry that was your introduction to the asian market because it has to be the worst movie i have seen in a while.

All 3 are great but Pulse still terrifies me everytime I watch it.

I do agree that the original Pulse is a really good movie, the thing is that to fully understand the movie, it helps to have knowledge of Asian Folklore. That way you fully understand why the red tape works against the dead. Another good one might be the original One Missed Call. I like that one.

yes there are some good ones out there one just has to be patient. I have seen several but i am not quite sure what you are looking for in a horror movie, like do you like gore, twists, storyline? i know that some talk so much that one can lose intrests easily. The movie i had seen was called "R-Point", its a vietnamiese horror and i liked it. the middle was a little slow but when it got close to finish it was good. i am sorry to say that i have not seen a good one sence then (but i have not been looking that hard) the best thing is to not try so hard to look for a great movie, but just happen to find one maybe. sometimes you can find some un popular and unknown one that are really good.

horror in any country is a tough sell
part of this i think is that almost all of us horror fans were inspired in our childhood
we read the stories, the books, and saw the movies, and we were blown away by the power of fear
as adults, we are harder to scare, and we can't get that same sense of fright as we did in our youths
one example that immediately comes to mind is THE THING. i was maybe ten years old when i came out, and it really freaked me out, and i felt a sense of impending doom and suspicion along with the characters--these days the same movie just doesn't inspire many emotions
we've all probably seen and read so many different scenarios that we've become jaded in our response to horror
i no longer watch horror expecting to be frightened, i watch to maybe catch an interesting movie
as for japanese horror, if you don't like it by now, you never will
asian sensibilities are very different than western, and you have to suspend your disbelief purposely in order to enjoy them
i am a big fan of Hong Kong crime cinema, but it's not quite the same as western cinema
as for AUDITION, try not to think of it as a horror movie, but as a movie.
notice how it develops, it's reminiscent of the way Hitchock built up suspense.
enjoy it for what it is, an exercise is classic movie making, and not as a horror flick with a great torture scene.
but perhaps therein lies our disappointment with modern horror--in this 'need it now' mode we all live in, the classics just aren't as appealing to us
