I think I would have to agree that the recent remake of "The Wicker Man" is a disgrace. In fact, it's almost like pissing on the original and the aspects concerning paganism are actually offensively ignorant as opposed to the original, which is one of my favorites.

The remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I believe, was also terrible. It didn't scare me at all and truth be told, I was looking forward to seeing it...but it doesn't compare at all.

Now, I'm a big fan of blood and gore, but that doesn't make a movie. The remake, for all its gore, pales in comparison to the implied violance and mayhem in the original. The power of the original is in what you don't see, the gritty independant quality, the unknown actors which made it feel all the more real, the actual bones and corpses of animals (and yes people; the skeletons were real), and the original Leatherface (played masterfully by Gunnar Hanson).

In my opinion, the new Leatherface is not scary or even very sympethetic. However, I appreciated "The Beginning" more than I did the original remake. At least they attempted some explanation into his character, which hadn't been attempted in the same way. Anyway, the new Leatherface struck me as a stock Bogeyman, with no real depth, a muscleman in a rubber skin mask.

Gunnar was real and even spent time at a college for mentally disabled people, learning how to behave like them, and the raw power that he portrayed still haunts the consciousness of millions of horror fans, young and old.

Gunnar Hanson is the man, and from what I understand, a very nice and down-to-earth, teddy bear of a man.
