I can't say these movies ever scared me, but they were my favorite to watch as a kid. I think everyone can agree that the first one is the scariest. The 2nd one was a pile of crap. But they totally redeemed themselves with the 3rd one (which is my favorite). The 4th got a little cooky, but I still liked it. The 5th had some good back story but other than that, I didn't much care for. The 6th was very outlandish and I hated almost every minute of it.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare was decent. I like the approach he took with it.
Overall, these are great films. I hate the fact they are remaking anything in this series.
I agree with Legendsmom, the first is a classic, the second was a flop, loved the third one, and the rest were okay. a re-make, and a re-make with out Robert, is a bad idea!
Which Nightmare on Elm Street Scared You the Most?
Were they supposed to be scary? I always ended up laughing when I watched them.

Just the idea that he got you in your dreams was enough for me. Great news for any insomniac..lol
