The actor who portrayed Nosferatu (Max Schrek or whatever) did a better job... should have done more vampire filmwork... and while we are on the subject: Anders Hove as RADU from Subspecies was the best of all vampires, and Brad Pitt as LOUIE was definitely the cutest.

Lugosi set the film standard for the vampire persona. Not until Dusk Til Dawn and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, did we begin to deviate from the image of Dracula and his minions that was set by the original film. Gary Oldman even revived the accent and the general demeanor, while heaping a portion of his own flamboyancy on it.

Christopher Lee was, without question, the most enduring. He gave Dracula a sexual charisma that was politely left out of Lugosi's portrayal.

In the TV shows, even Angel was the quiet, dark, brooding, Lugosiesc, seldom public figure...that just happened to have ass kicking kung fu powers and cool weapons. The new guy on Moonlight is not bad either. He kind of brings back that tortured, mournful character who must "endure" his existence as a vampire, that we saw in Lugosi.

But, Lugosi was the pattern for every image we see of the classic vampire in fiction, in halloween costumes, and in toys. He really did set an industry standard.

Without a doubt, it's BELA!! Christopher Lee is a good actor, but in my heart there is only one Dracula.

In fact, I own almost all of Bela's movies. When I think of classic horror, I think of him.

Bela. Just because he rocked right up to the end. Christopher Lee was the first Dracula to scare me, but Bela had already won my heart.

I posted this question last year and the result I received favored Bela. Bela was the first and as such set the standard for everyone else.

I recently watch Bram Stoker Dracula and I must that Gary Oldham is great, but I can't help but wonder how much greater Bela would have been with the modern special effects. In all actualityI think that all of the orginal stars like Boris Karloff, and lon Chaney junior and senior are the best.

I love Lugosi. I love Lee too but I saw Lugosi when I was 4. The roots are too deep to deny.

Bella is the original so the prize should go to him for starting an entire culture of vamps, but, Mr. Lee is far more menacing. He sends a chill down my spine whenever I see his "Sleepy Hollow" scene, the part when he points his finger and glares at Johnny.

Lugosi by far. However, I think lee for more of a romantic vamp
