I Spit on Your Grave....AKA Day of The Woman

Okay, I know droves of people hate this movie, but I think it is excellent. Very creepy because it could actually happen. I know there are movies with more violent rape scenes, yada yada yada, but this one still disturbs me. Watch the DVD with the Joe Bob Briggs commentary and it is just plain hilarious.

I saw this movie when it was first released, and yes it was scary, and brutal at least back then.A GREAT payback movie.

I hadn't watched this in ages so decided to rewatch about a year ago. Parts of it come across a bit hokey today, but even with that it's still a very brutal and frightening film.

I say listen whereof smitty speaks:

The Millennium Edition release with John Bloom's commentary makes this one worth watching again. If it's your first time through... give the commentary a pass. It'll take away too much of the impact of the film, I think.

I liked this movie. I saw it in the theater when it first came out, and found it fairly scary.

My favorite time seeing it, though, was at a hurricane party when I worked in North Jersey. A hurricane was supposed to hit the area, and Jesse Helms was saying on TV that it was God's punishment on a wicked New York City. A bunch of guys from work got together at one guy's apartment and we drank a LOT while watching "I Spit On Your Grave," "Two Thousdan Maniacs," and "Basket Case." We had a blast...though a couple of guys took the bathroom scene with the opera music a bit personally (I was LMAO!)

Postscript -- no lie -- the hurricane changed direction and hit North Carolina, Jesse Helm's area! How's that for irony?

I remember seeing this movie on VHS in high school. It bothered me to the point that I vowed to never see it again. My fragile 16 year old mind was not prepared for the depravity that I saw on screen.

Should you see it? That's debatable. It is a "classic" by many people's standards. Though it has just as many people who don't like it.

I think a much better rape/revenge movie to see would be Thriller: A Cruel PIcture. It has a great payoff, and it's one that I can suggest with no feelings of guilt aftwards.

It is a disturbing flick, one worth seeing once.. if you watch it every saturday night, then you need to check in somewhere.
