Has anyone here seen Un Chien Andalou (1929), the legendary surrealist cult film from France???
Wait a minute.
I know what you're thinking.
"It's a film from the 1920's, so it's probably tame and lame."
Wrong!
This film has one of the most notorious scenes in film.
The opening scene, in which a woman has her eye sliced open in graphic detail, is a legendary scene.
Again, has anyone else here seen this film???
Want to See Something REALLY Strange???
I have seen this film. Its the brain child of the well known surrealist artist Salvador Dali and is directed by Luis Brunel. The title translates into "Ants in the palm" and refers to a person's urge to kill. Those interested in viewing it can find it online. It is only seventeen minutes long and should be accompanied by the music of Wagner.
Want to See Something REALLY Strange???
Actually, doesn't the title translate to "An Andalusian Dog"???
Want to See Something REALLY Strange???
you're probably right
Want to See Something REALLY Strange???
There is a french phrase for the ants in the palm, and it is a reference to the urge to kill. Its been a while since I saw this one or academically studied film. My apologies.
Want to See Something REALLY Strange???
I do know for a fact that the film is referenced in the Pixies song "Debaser", Frank Black screams in the chorus "I am un chien Andalusia", cool tune.
