Frankenhooker (1990) starring James Lorinz as the mad scientist and Patty Mullen as his dead girlfriend/ creation. Obviously by the title this is a horror film made in the vein of the Bride of Frankenstein (1935).
To be honest I didn't know what to expect. It's from the 90's, so I knew someone somewhere would have zubba pants (a pimp, Zorro, had them on). That it would be low budget and there would be a few laughs, either at the film or at a situation.
The plot is pretty much straight from the second act of Mary Shelly's novel "Frankenstein". The young doctor fianc is killed and he saves her head and uses other woman's bodies to bring her back to life. Now in Frankenhooker our young Jersey Boy doctor, James Lorinz, actually is a failed medical student and an expert auto mechanic. His fianc is killed by one of his inventions (a giant lawnmower) and he keeps her head (the only thing left) and decides to bring her to life. But where is going to get parts? Manhattan of course and a few prostitutes of his liking. The movie also pays homage to or steals from another Frankenstein type film called the Re-Animator (1985) Espically when it comes to what happens to all the other parts that the young doctor doesn't use.
The movie is not a nudie fest but one scene borders on it. There is awkward comedy to the movie that keeps it from ever being straight horror. All those involved give an honest effort and it does make good for a one time viewing.
The special Edition DVD had some nice features and an interview with Frankenhooker herself, Patty Mullen, adding to my over all fun experience.
Frankenhooker
I vaguely remember this movie. I do however remember laughing hysterically (in a good way). Funny movie, not very scary though, as the title may have lead you to believe.
Frankenhooker
What a fucking ridiculous movie it is! Directed by the same loser who directed "Basket Case"...one of the sickest movies ever made...all you need to know about Patty Mullen is that she was a Penthouse Pet...one of the hottest chicks to walk the Earth...and then she went and appeared in "Frankenhooker"...pardon me while I hurl!
Frankenhooker
Of course this was a ridiculous movie!!! All due respect, what else would anybody expect from a film called FRANKENHOOKER?!? You missed the point. It was paying comical homage to The Bride of Frankenstein. Sure, some of the gags fell flat, but overall this flick provided more than it's share of B-Movie goodness. The makers of this film were not attempting a remake of a Shakespere play. It poked fun at itself and it was harmless fun. (Although, I personally don't think drug addiction jokes are all that funny. I must be getting to old.)
