Before watching this flick, I set my expectations low due to the fact that it's a "remake" and my 12 year old daughter saw it in theatre's with friends and said it was terrible. The first thing I noticed about this movie was that it didn't follow the original storyline at all. I can't even say that this was a remake of the 1980 film by the same name. Honestly, the only things the two had in common were the fact that some highschool kids were killed on Prom Night.
The story follows Donna (Brittany Snow) who's family were killed by one of her teachers that became obsessed with her. Fast forward 3 years after that tragic accident and you have her alive and well, living with her Aunt and Uncle and getting ready for her senior prom. She's been having nightmares about the man that killed her family and is convinced he is going to come back and kill her - but a pep talk from the counselor reminds her that he's been locked up 2300 miles away and can't get her. Dun Dun Dun....
All the kids arrive at prom, and a fax comes across to the police station advising them that the guy has escaped 3 days prior and is still at large. By this time, the guy is already checked into the hotel prom is being throw at and back to his old games. One by one, the stupid, unsuspecting teens start to drop like flys so the psycho can get one step closer to his beloved Donna. One thing leads to another, and in the end the good guys prevail. But of course with many tragedies left behind.
This movie was very very predictable. They used the whole hiding in the closet and under the bed format to try to make you feel suspense - and sadly, they failed. Maybe that director should take a tip from the director of High Tension. There wasn't much gore. Just a little blood spatter from time to time. the acting was terrible! Brittany Snow should stick to musicals and comedy. Jassilyn Gilsig (Nip/Tuck) plays her Aunt and I thought I'd seen the last of that dumb bitch when she was fucked off a building by Christian Troy on last season of Nip/Tuck. Ugh, I think it was wise to use a bunch of nobody's for this movie, but at least they could have used some DECENT nobody's.
Overall, this movie was crap. The only thing I have good to say about it is the fact that it WAS NOT a remake. Sharing the same name but two totally different movies. If you are 13, watch it. You might like it. But then again, if you are 13 you shouldn't be reading this review because I have a foul mouth!

I lised the few things Brittany Snow has been in and is best known for. I wouldn't say that she is totally unknown like most of the other cast members - but I would say she's the best of the worst.
