Hence, its true. Officially there are no zombies in Silent Hill, lumbering demons resembling zombies, but no official zombies.

And no, they're not zombies. Like "Stuntman Mike" was so kindly pointing out. Zombies are classified as a recently deceased person coming back to life due to (usually) the...zombie disease if you will. The zombie disease is what happens whenever a zombie breaks your skin in anyway via clawing or biting. From then its just a matter of time before you slowly succumb to the disease and die and a few minutes later you come back to life as an undead fiend. Zombies are usually considered symptoms of a plague, the after result of a science experiment gone horribly wrong or something along those lines. Zombies also have an endless desire to feast on human flesh. Depending on the director of the movie, Zombies either stumble around like they're drunk and have very low dexterity (George A. Romero's movies, Resident Evil), or they stumble around until they spot potential food, and instantly go into kill mode and charge at you in a murderous frenzy (see Dawn of the Dead 2004 remake, or, if you must, 28 Days Later). Zombies have very little intelligence, if any at all, but for some reason they can distinquish between other zombies and a live human. The best way to deal with a zombie is to bash its head in some way, shoot it, break its neck, smash its head open, at the end of the day, the head is the target.

Demons are just that. Demonic spirits manifesting themselves in a physical form. Zombies have no demonic spirits, they're simply walking husks of their former selfs when they were alive. So, I'm sorry, but in this case, just 'cause it looks like a duck and occasionally quacks like a duck, the lumbering monsters in Silent Hill are not zombies, they are demons. They have plenty of demonic qualities like, only coming out at night, shying away from crosses and christian holy symbols, using fire (zombies also hate fire), and no real weakspots, unlike a zombie's head.

So yes, they are demons.
