General Horror Discussion

I must admit. . . . . . . Im kinda/sorta getting tired of slasher movies. Yeah, they are still enjoyable but its like eating the same shit for YEARS. With all the modern efx they have, when are they going to bring back MONSTER MOVIES. Something wicked, quick, deadly, evil, alien. THE THING prequel was the most recent but they are few and far between. Anybody else missing a good old school type MONSTER flick ?

No ghosts or psycho killers. Just good ol' Man vs. Beast creatures.
 
 
Do you guys have a preferencefor the size of your creature?
 
There are the over-sized monsters that pit human ingenuity and/or community against brawn. Godzilla, King Kong, 'Cloverfield' monster, 'Tremors' worms (or 'Graboids', Ha!), 'Jurassic Park' dinos, 'Starship Trooper' bugs, 'War of the Worlds' tripods,  Anaconda/Jaws/Croc/Octopus/Sharktopus/etc.
 
Swarm mosters are kinda like over-sized monsters since they represent more like a force of nature, like fire or a tornado, where there's not "a single heart to stop." Zombies en masse, 'Arachnophobia' spiders, Piranhas, Gremlins & Critters, hormone aggravated 'Snakes on a Plane', etc.
 
Then there's the human-sized monsters which basically boil down to a boxing max or 'Mortal Combat' video game mentality of attribute vs. attribute. Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies (mano a zombo), Alien, Predator, 'Splice' girl, 'Descent' creatures, 'Terminator' T-800, etc. (There's a sh!tload of these. Probably at least 70% of the creature feature genre.)
 
The there's 'other', something that doesn't really fit into either category. JC's 'The Thing' creature, 'Splinter'... thing, 'The Ruins' plant, and the goo from 'Prometheus'. Very few of these.
 
 
 
 
For me, I love over-sized monsters, am neutral to negative about swarm monsters, loathe human-sized monsters, and am intrigued by entries in the too neglected 'other' category.

 the most recent that I found & watched was a vid pute out in 2011 called sand sharks !!! not the best but entertaining ??!!

Yeah, you gotta type out all your text FIRST, proof it to the best of your ability, do your bolding/italicising/underlining/linking next, THEN start adding in pictures LAST.

After adding the picture's URL into the pop-up window just click on the preview image space to see the picture. You can also monkey around with the width, height will auto-adjust, before clicking the "OK" button.

PS - Can't believe you enjoy any of those sh!t-horrible SyFy flicks. LOL!  Something for everyone, right?

Yep. THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN had to be scary in its day (although kinda dated for the NOW crowd) Just watched it recently.

Im hoping the BLACK LAGOON remake will start a CREATURE FEATURE trend, hope its good.

 I prefer OVERSIZED monsters only cause its been awhile but I FOOKIN HATE "dinosaur monsters". I loved Jurassic Park but its STILL too "normal" Like a giant tiger or something. I like MONSTERS. FREAKY/UGLY/SCARY shite that in real life would emote a "holyfookinlivingshiterunforyourlife" response. I believe thats the technical term, ahem, lol. BUT Cadillac/PickUp Truck monsters fit the bill too. NOT human size stuff unless they come up with something creepy. Although as I mentioned, I AM looking forward to THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON.
