I think we already have a discussion about this.... But i liked it. It was cool twist on the Hostel consept. Only thing was the whole "torture dungeon" setting added a sort of gritty and grossness to the first 2 and we lost that in the third one.

Hers my full review that i did.

So Its finally here. The next intsallment in one of modern horrors most legendary franchises, Hostel. Directed by Scott Speigel (actor in Evil Dead 2, and director of From Dusk Till Dawn 2, Intruder, The Nut House), this twist in the normal Hostel M.O. has its good moments and its bad moments. That in mind this is still a pretty good movie and im surprised to say is definately watchable.

Four friends at a bachelor party in the one and only Las Vegas, are having the time of their lives at a few of the most lavous and expensive clubs/casinos that the USA has to offer. After all waking up from a blackout night of drinking at a mysterious club that they were "escorted" to by two very beautiful women, they find one of there friends to be missing. After meeting up with another concerned party they go out and look for their missing friends. What they find is a uncomprehendable world of torture. Where very rich men can both gamble on human lives (aka what how long ittakes to die, or pleading technique the victim uses in their attempt to get free) and how the will come to a very painful death. Its up to the remaining friends to escape this horrible place and get revenge on those who are responsible.

So the movie does follow off where the last 2 end. Only it doesnt take place in the desolate forests of Europe. It takes place in the desolate mountains and deserts of Nevada. I think the goal here was to follow the Hostel story but take it in a different and even more compelling way. There also sits the question of whether they did it well or not. In my book they did. But that doesnt mean it was perfect. The surrounding environment of Las Vegas was (in my opinion) a perfect place to put the next installment when the goal was to not have it be in Europe. People go there with a shit load of money to spend on things they only dreamt about as children. Why shouldnt that including a highest bidder murder game. The environment of million dollar event rooms where the torture happens and the tone of the film in regards to buying someones death was done well and it does create a unique and very compelling feel to the film. But i couldnt stop thinking of one thing. The Hostel movies heavily relied on the dark, damp, grimy, and gritty, prison like areas for the torture to take place. Having the torture chambers highly clean and technological, also being behind glass from million dollar event rooms, sort of took away a gross out factor. Or even a scare factor. It replaces it with a different tone (that is still well done and effective), which some will like and some wont. But what EVERYONE will love, are the kills. Hostel once again deliver gruesome yet pretty in a way, murderous torture that none of us could have imagined. Whether it be insects eating your skull from the inside out, skinnings, genital mutilations, stabbings, arrows shot all over, axes into chests, facing completely severed in half, or garden tools. NOBODY will be disappointed with the kills.

With all this praise aside i will mention the bad parts. Though there arent very many, they do stand out and take away from the movie. While most of the kills are shown (and very fun to watch) the final, triumphant, and super painful kill isnt shown. It happens off screen. This will infact be a HUGE turn off, especially that being the final scene of the movie. Also there a re loads of small, quick, but still noticeable goofs that will take you out of the film for a moment. I cant say most of them without giving away huge parts of the story. BUt something like... A guy takes a picture of a dead body with his phone and sends it to another person. When this other person opens and sees the picture, the picture is from a different angle. That coupled with slipping accents and outragously bad acting sequences there are too many of these moments to pass up mentioning. With the acting in mind. Not all of the acting was up to par. But what do you expect. This is a third installment not directed by the original director. It cant be perfect. But a few actors did stand out among the shit. Pretty boy Kip Pardue (Driven, Stag Night, Remember the Titans) plays a great scumbag that suprises you with his change in character. Chris Coy (Flash Forward, The Mentalist, Pirahna) plays another scumbag who is second in command at the facility. He does a great jop with his crazy character and makes him believable.

Over all I think the movie is a really good twost on the Hostel concept originally done by horror master Eli Roth. THough the tone does a complete 180 degree turn, some will like and some will hate. I wont recommend because i feel that its up to you whether you see this. It has a 50/50 chance of pleasing the Hostel Fans. Rabid fans aside its a well done and decently executed movie that i thuroughly enjoyed and i hope you do to.

I absolutely hated this movie. It's not directed by Eli Roth [who directed the first two movies that I love] This was obvious in the first 10 minutes of the movie. I hate how it became a "game" with the torturers as players. There was no moral to this movie like there was in the first two. It was a terrible dissapointment and the gore was fake as shit.

And how it fucking sucked! That's 90min. of my life I won't get back. Hostel 2 is still the best in my opinion.

I didnt care for the "gaming" aspect. There is also some silliness in that only the REALLY rich can afford to join. You dont just kill 30-40-50 super rich "customers/members" and not start a world wide criminal investigation that would end the whole enterprise. Some of the kills were lame. It was ok, just nowhere near the darkness and creepiness of the first two. Also doing this shit in a third world, crime ridden, war torn area is one thing, Nevada ? ? ? Too stupid.
