IMO, there is nothing quite so disturbing as the realisation of futility. No one else quite captures this mood. And still (!!!) not one of the movies based on ol' H.P.'s writings realy captures his tone.

I think Darren Aronofsky should take a shot at it, personally.

the greatest difficulty in making a lovecraft movie well,is that in his novels he tends to leave much of the horror to OUR imaginations only giving vague and general discriptions and allowing us the readers to fill in the blanks.

problem is we each fill in the blanks according to our own imagination,.and no matter who makes a movie based on lovecrafts work, there will always be some disappointment but i hope the film industry continues to try.

I HEARD ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF A FILM VERSION OF " AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS " SO MAYBE WE'LL GET A KILLER VISUALIZATION OF THAT!

The Resurrected from 1990 was pretty good. with good ole Chris Sarandon from Fright Night.

No filmmaker today really understands Lovecraft. A German expressionist from the 20's would get it well enough -- at least visually -- but we must consider that maybe some things are better in the written form than on screen; just as some plays should remain plays, songs should remain songs, and paintings should remain paintings.

DUH MOVIES ARE NEVER AS GOOD AS THE BOOKS OR SHORT STORYS THEY ARE BASED ON...THATS JUST NOT HOW IT WORKS.

Duh . . . but then there's "A Clockwork Orange," "Jonny Got His Gun," "38 Charlie MoPic," "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Apocalypse Now!", "Audrey Rose," "Rosemary's Baby," "The Devil's Advocate," and so on, to prove that movies are just as good, if not better, than their source material . . . duh.

I second this. While his writings border on the weird/horror fence, he undoubtedly captures every mood he is attempting.

If someone could pull his writings off on the big screen, it would easily enter the ranks of my favorite films.

Do you have a favorite of the attempts at his works?
