All i gotta say is...when will hollywood make a movie so horrific that it makes people run out of the theatre and traumatizes them for the rest of their lives. I havent seen a horror movie yet that actually scares the shit out of people. If any of you have any recommendations..post them so i can see if i can scare the crap out of myself.

Are you refering to horror based on just gore or horror based on what you can't see that scares you. Gore is just shock value?....You may or may not agree, but Blair Witch Project was psychologically more scary because it was what you didn't see that scared you...while Hostel depended on in your face gore and torture. Which has the abilty you truly scare you? I saw a movie called Session 9. It was very slowly and deliberatly paced...and it had a gloomy setting which lent to the overall quality of the film. I thought it wasa very effective and disturbing film. If you happen to see it let me know what you think.

A movie where it combines everything, from a mind trip to a down right slasher. With kills who kill you in your sleep or a good old fashion stab in the chest. Basicly to me something with enormous amounts of blood.

My dad told me, back in the 60s, that movie which you're refering to... was called "Night Of The Living Dead". He said he and his parents went to the drive in to see it, and half way through the movie people were screaming and vomiting.

I don't think there will ever be THE Ultimate horror Movie for all time simply because as time passes, and new horror movies are released,SOMEBODY ias always going to claim it's not enough. And that the former horror movies really aren't that scary. When I was younger and The Exorcist first hit the big screen,it WAS The Ultimate Horror!! Now the new generations argue otherwise.Same with the originals of Psycho,Jaws,Halloween,Texas Chainsaw Massacre,etc,etc....What this means is that there will only be The Ultimate Horror Movies FOR THEIR TIME .

I also think that what you don't see is scarier than gore if done in the right way. The original Haunting truely scared me... yet you couldn't see anything. Also, 2000 Maniacs scared me as well... but I should rewatch that now. It may not be as scary. Who knows...

Have to go with war of the worlds on the radio or Night of the living dead and what could really happen the Exorcist-- still to this day i know several who wont watch it at all!

I really would like to see that day when that perfect horror movie is made. Untill then, I have to agree about the Excorist, I myself, can not watch it all the way through..

I thought the exorcism of emily was more scary than the exorist. That girl was really jacked up. Whenever i wake up around 3:00 am I get nervous and start to sniff the air!

They are both "based on true stories"!

That's what really makes them creepy.
