If you are willing to burn your own CDs (or you have an mp3 player), I can recommend some podcast horror fiction that might fill the bill (and they have the advantage of being free):

"Infection" and "Ancestor" by Scott Sigler

http://scottsigler.podshow.com/

"Pseudopod" (an audio short story horror magazine)

http://pseudopod.org/

And, humbly, "Come, Let Me Whisper" by yours truly.

Hope these help with the trip!

I just finished a great audio book called World War Z which deals with the zombie war and aftermath all over the world. It was fantastic.

I can definately second the recomendation for Pseudopod and Come, Let Me Whisper. I love CLMW, every story is well written and creepy for sure!

Also, get the Recorded Books version of Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, read by Nick Landrum. Check it out of your library. This was fantastic!

And if you haven't read/heard Dean Koontz's The Face, read by Dylan Baker, get it now!

Most libraries have audio-download for free, with just your library card, you download at home. All free!

Yeah, I'm a librarian.

Thanks for the nod, GetHappy, you just made my day!

Also, thanks for the tip about audio downloads from the library- that was news to me, and I'm definitely going to check it out.

I got a chance to listen to CLMW today, i was really impressed. I downloaded the two most recent podcasts, but i'll be downloading some of the others later today. it was kind of strange hearing you read and knowing you're on fearnet, it's rare we get to hear anyones voice from here. Keep up the good work RL!!

Aww, come on, you guys are going to make me blush. And that is NOT allowed by horror authors. If the others find out they'll revoke my license. Then I'll have to write stories about fluffy bunnies or something. Ewww.

as long as the fluffy bunny gets it's head ripped off by some terrifying monster, or maybe a zombie, i don't see any problem with that. which story is your favorite RL?

Ooh, tough call. I'm kind of partial to "The Watchbird," and a lot of listeners picked that one as their favorite as well. But it really depends on your taste in horror, as my stuff is all over the road. I've also gotten a really good response to my first two "Chris and Tommy" stories, which are "Companion" and "The Seance."

I got a chance to listen to "The Seance" and "Companion" today. They were good. I think I liked "Companion" better. I would've liked to see Chris and Tommy play with that spell book some more. I really enjoy your stories RL, they prevent the hours at my monotonous data entry temp job from tipping over into the precarious precipice of ennui. thanks RL.

Thanks man. And believe me, I can commiserate. I, too, type for eight hours a day, and I would go f-ing crazy if I didn't have a huge selection of podcasts to listen to.
