Phantoms was the first book I read by him and it scared the crap out of me. I had to turn on all the lights in the house. Lightening is another one - I can read that over and over again.

i love all of his books but i would say my favorite has to be lightning. would be an awesome movie if they could do it right but i'm sure it would be totally butchered like the rest of his movies and a real disappointment.

I recently read the Taking and thought it was more in line with his older books and enjoyed it as such. Some of his recent books have been a little weak and predictable.
