The goosebumps series were o.k. for the little peeps
Yes I remember being a younger horror novel fan, RL Stine was great. Did you ever watch Are You Afraid of the Dark on Nickeloden? Now that was a great little scary show for a kid. I read Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and Robin Cooke. Love them all, just bought like 5 books for only 14 on Amazon. Who are you other favorite authors?
I was a bit old for these (Goosebumps), but had a son in the right age. I remember reading these to him for bedtime (at his request) before he was old enough to read them himself. We still have better than 100 of them that he will not part with, even at 16. He's saving them for his kids someday. I always thought they were really interesting. Kind of a book version of Twilight Zone for kids.
I enjoy authors who allow children to explore the complex themes of horror. Alvin Schwarz' SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK SERIES were some of my personal favorites growing up. And I always enjoyed a romp with good ol' Hitchcock when I was a kid. In fact, my newest novella, The Haunting of Buckskin Joe: Ghostly Tales from an Old West Town is a tributary work to the ghots stories I enjoyed when I was younger. (Yep, it never fails to throw some shameless self promotion into the mix, does it?)
I actually did read the Fear Street books when I was a kid, my mom worked at a bookstore at the time and pretty much bought me each one as they came out. I probabaly still have a few put away. I enjoyed them; but I always preferred Christopher Pike, he seemed to have the sicker mind.
R.L. Stine was great
